s9e Media Sites 2.18.6

No permission to download
Hello,

Members of my board have been complaining of Youtube asking them to confirm they're not a bot when playing embed Youtube videos. This seems to have started just after migration to Xenforo 2.3. I'm currently using 2.3.3 and was on MediaSites 2.16.6 (just upgrading to 2.16.7 as we speak).
Could it be due to this MediaSites?

It shouldn't be, although you can test this hypothesis by temporarily uninstalling the add-on (disabling it is not enough) so that the embeds revert to the default XenForo embeds. While the add-on is disabled, media sites that aren't supported by the plain XenForo will not appear anymore. Uninstalling and reinstalling the add-on may (will?) also reset the add-on's options, so you may want to keep track of your configuration before doing so.

You should ask those users whether they see the same behaviour on other sites that embed videos. It could be related to some privacy-preserving feature(s) implemented in their browser, or whether you have configured the add-on's option to use the privacy-enabled YouTube player.

is there a trick for google docs? i couldnt seem to get that to work but it seems like an obvious thing to not include, feel like im missing something.

As I recall, there's no support for Google Docs (the suite) because it encompasses too many different things to be supported effectively. There's individual support for Google Sheets and for Google Drive (only the videos, I think.) This may be better handled with an add-on that specializes in handling Google Docs.

Hello @JoshyPHP, did you plan to add Ausha?
Thanks.
I'm not familiar with Ausha but they're not showing a lot of activity in the Reddit search engine so I don't have any plans to add them in the foreseeable future. I've looked through their documentation and their embed code seems only accessible through the podcast's author interface. There may be a way to generate the correct embed code without access to the interface (IOW, based solely on the podcast episode's URL) but that would require further research to be determined. If you're interested in sponsoring that research/development, you can send me a DM and I'll give you a quote ASAP.

Hey, can you check if twitter embeds are working fine? They have been quite weird since yesterday. They randomly starts working. But most of the time they show unavailable. Regular twitter embed code works fine. So it's possible that they are blocking my IP or something.

Did a bit more testing and it is very weird. I can see embeds on twitter's own embed code page. I can see embeds if I turn on a VPN. but they stop working on either of my two home connections. since they load on vpn, i imagine twitter is not specifically blocking my server ip.

Hello, thanks for your detailed answer.
Embed code is accessible to anyone:

I don't have a pressing need to integrate the podcasts hosted by Ausha, but I'm keeping this information in mind. Thanks.

Everything is working fine here. What do you see when they don't work? A screenshot would be fine too.

What happens if you go to this page directly?

Good to know, I didn't see they had a button at the bottom of the page. That means the podcast's internal ID can be scraped off that page.

yeah i tried that url from source code. same behavior.

basically on both of my wired connections from two different ISPs (airtel/excitel), the tweets appear as unavailable. but if i turn on a vpn like warp or proton, tweets load fine. tweets also load fine on my mobile data which is from one of the two wired operators (airtel) lol.

and when i made the above post, tweet embeds were loading fine on twitter's publish page but i cannot get them to load now so i guess it is just twitter blocking embed requests from both of my wired ISPs. i tried loading a few news articles that have embedded tweets and they are just not loading at my end. i only see the preview text that is part of the official embed code. so i guess it has nothing to do with media sites rendering of tweets. i guess i would keep an eye on this.

Okay, I was wondering whether you could be blocked by GitHub's network. What do you get when you try loading the embedded tweet directly? I'd expect an error message, but finding which error might help. It's theoretically possible that it's an issue at the DNS level, and it would be a different error than Twitter blocking requests from your IP.

Add Nacho video to the list of supported video ?
Done.

link loaded blank for me. turned on vpn, loaded fine. turned off vpn, continues to load fine lol. the behavior is very random. embeds do work randomly for a while on my site. this started happening yesterday. hard to tell what exactly is going on at my router level.
