s9e Media Sites 2.18.6

you need to check if your version of xenforo has the internal update to support x.com. if you are on 2.3, i think you should have support for it. i am not sure which update of 2.2.x got support for x.com.

this thread might help.

so i dived into release threads and you would need at least 2.2.14 to have native support for x.com links.

I am fully updated (I always update minutes after a release). I also went through the steps with @Paul B to verify. I have rebuilt my master templates twice now as well.

It sounds similar to this post here:

I keep wondering if Twitter changed something again? But why do they work just fine in the test post forum? I can render YouTube, and some Twitter posts just fine on my board, but others will not. With @JoshyPHP addon everything works flawlessly.

i am not a fan of native embed support of twitter links as it causes massive layout shift. first the link appears and then it slowly embeds and your position on the page is completely lost. removing s9e media sites addon would also kill embeds of a lot of other sites that are not supported natively on xenforo.com. i really hate to rely on third party addon which might lose support some day but this addon has saved me a lot of hassle wrt embedding of web content lol.

and yes, some tweets do seem to fail to embed. i think it's random but might be connected some sort of marking by x team. i have seen controversial news content tweets fail to embed randomly with s9e. and most of the times, it also fails to load on x embed code page which means that the block is intentional from x's end.

iirc this has been asked before and dev showed interested but wanted to know if someone knew of third party server connecting with the primary portal to see how to go about it. mastodon requires special treatment as it is hosted on multiple domains. bsky is probably same.

I've just checked Twitter's oEmbed endpoint (in isolation, outside of XenForo) and the first couple of attempts failed before working reliably. My guess is there's some reliability issues in Twitter's infrastructure, it might just be random.

@Mirabilis @Swiftman @Poindexter @RenegadeMonster @RoyalRumble With regards to Bluesky, I have done some preliminary work some time ago but I haven't had time to finish it. Federated sites such as Bluesky or Mastodon require some special treatment in order to be used safely and unfortunately each site has a slightly different way of doing things which requires its own custom solution. So in short, Bluesky is on my TODO (or rather, TOFINISH) list and it is my intention to do it this weekend because after that, I'm going to be busy for the next two weeks.

Either way, I will update this thread in a couple of days with a more solid timeline. Be sure to watch this thread so you're notified as soon as I do.

Appreciate the update JoshyPHP. I suspected it might be a PITA given how they do things with BlueSky. I'll let my forumites know that it will be a case of at some point.

Take it easy

Mirabilis

I've just published the update. I have a bunch of tests to ensure that things work as expected but if there's any issues I'll make myself available asap.

The bsky.app is allowed by default. AFAICT Bluesky doesn't have a dark theme for their embedded posts but if someone finds any info about it, send it my way and I'll look into it.

Would it be possible to make it like on the big media sites that if a video is being watched (active) and you scroll then it automatically move down to the left or right corner of the screen where it continues to play ?

Now you have to click activiely on the small icon on the right button corner.

Not really, no. The main reason is that it's impossible for the host page (your forums) to know what's going on inside an iframe, so it cannot determine whether a video is playing. Some players (YouTube's for instance) do offer a proprietary API through which the host can communicate with the iframe, but that's kinda rare among other video hosts.

On the board I provide support for, the WalMart links come up as "Robot or Human"?
I've got s9e-MediaSites-2.17.0 installed with all default options, on XF 2.3.4. What do you think might be the issue?
The link works but nobody knows what it is without clicking to open it.

My example link gives the preview above but seems to work fine here on Xenforo.com.

this is pretty much unrelated to s9e media sites, as the link is being unfurled and not embedded. this happens with many sites that try to put an interstitial barrier on their links based on ip. this is why the link which rendered here fine had issues on your board (your ip is different from the ip being used by xenforo to access the same link). bloomberg and amazon does it for me regularly and i have to link them up manually (pasting text and manually linking it).
