Speaking of YouTube nonsense, I just started seeing this on embedded YouTube Videos on my forum.

And yup, you have to solve a captcha when you check off "I'm not a robot"

Doesn't seem to matter if I'm logged in to YouTube or not and I'm not connected to a VPN. Using Xfinity Internet.

Yeah, we are also seeing the You Tube issue. It is not happening every time - it is intermittent and doesn't appear to be video-specific. Right now it's working so I haven't been able to test that setting change.

Yeah, same here. YouTube was working again by the time I went to try Enabling YouTube's enhanced privacy node. So I can't report back as to whether or not that did anything as of yet.

@Greenandgold If you send me the URLs you tried, I'll take a look into it.

Also, note that in most (if not all) cases, when a URL is converted into an embedded thingy, the tracking IDs are lost forever. That is, unless you have enabled one of the options that preserve the URL as a link.

If you know of a domain that runs that software (I assume that was about Bluesky?) then you can add their domain name to the list and it will embed their content as well. Works that way with Mastodon, but I don't know of any custom ATProto server.

Yeah, I couldn't spend too much time looking into it but AFAICT you have:
  • ATProto: that's just a protocol, like HTTPS. It's the theoretical part.
  • PDS: it's the back-end for storing posts. IOW that's like a database or a mail server.
  • App(?): that's the front-end, it serves posts/content to the user.
Wrt Bluesky, I think the bsky.social domain is for their PDS (as evidenced in the Bluesky handles) while bsky.app runs the app. You could have your own bluersky.app front-end with your own custom interface similar to how Nitter was.

If you want to run your own PDS, you'll be the authoritative source for those posts but a PDS isn't a web server and you still need to display them via an app. I think that the Bluesky app is "open" by default, and you just need to log in with your custom domain identifier or something.

@Salamanca I'm not familiar with Cloudflare Stream. If you send me an example of the kind of URLs that people would post, I will look into it. There's a good chance it won't be a good candidate but I can take a look.

As I recall, it doesn't really matter. It won't be upgraded but you don't have to delete it either. IIRC it doesn't hurt to uninstall it before upgrading so you might as well do that.
  1. Uninstall the XF1 add-on.
  2. Upgrade to XF 2.3.
  3. Install the XF2 add-on.
