I use the Bookmarks add-on and was wondering if it has the ability to have a URL entered into it...as opposed to automatically set with the bookmark link?

The reasoning is this - I wish to bookmark various parts of my site which do not show up with that link at the bottom - example being the list of members, etc.

The system is designed to bookmark user generated content only due to the need to keep the bookmarks display constant.
So things like Pages or lists will not fit into the grand scheme of things. Please see this post.

Oh, that makes sense.....although, not being a coder, it would seem that you could manually enter these (that is, not save them using a link, but perhaps add them manually).

Hi Erich,

I know you are keen about Pinterest and have been looking at Bookmarks for it, however, since such a system relies on images this add-on is not quite suitable for it.

I’m not sure I understand your idea about the home page list. Since only you can view the private bookmarks you create then what is the difference if the list is located on your Account page or the main forum? The thread list is more or less dynamic while the bookmark list is much less so. Not sure what benefit you see by displaying them elsewhere. Besides, threads have titles and thus can be listed nicely while bookmarks may or may not include a ‘Note to Self’ (ie Title). Also, what if you have multiple posts from the same thread?

There is a reason why the bookmarks tab is called ‘Quick Links’ and not ‘Mega Links to all your Bookmarks and then Some’ . You decide what bookmark links are displayed there which in turn means you control the number of links displayed. It is a straight forwards list designed to be used in combination with some basic common sense. If one wishes to display 200 links like you suggest then there is nothing I can do (or will do) about it. From my experience, most users have a maximum of a dozen or so bookmarks (public and private). Once the system has been running for a while then bookmarks stats can be viewed via the ACP.

Public (shared) bookmarks display via a tab on the profile page. There is no other place to display them (although you could create a EWRporta block for the last X public bookmarks of all users if you wish).
Where else should they be displayed? They belong to the member and therefore what better place than the profile page?
Only those with permission to view the profile page may view the bookmarks tab.

I like to document my experience in release discussion threads primarily because it shows others who are thinking of purchasing the add-on they're thinking of purchasing is supported and updates work and users who upgraded, upgraded with ease (which i did and knew it would). Of course, I knew the upgrade would work your a fabulous developer and no matter how small an update is a fix is a fix and on my part highly appreciated.

Now go and develop us a big juicy feature update otherwise we're all going to be forced to give you six of the best.

Syndol, is there an easy way to have the shared bookmarks tab in the profile page directly linked to....or come up live, instead of having to go to the profile page and then click Bookmarks?

This would allow users to link directly to their shared bookmarks in their sig, etc......

You will have to edit the xenforo.js file.

1. Could you consider putting something which did this into a future version of BM (if it can be done).
2. Can anyone comment on the exact code change to:
a. Direct link to bookmarks tab
and/or
b. have bookmarks tab show up as the default one?

1). The only way this add-on could have any control over it is if it rewrites the member_view template tabs to call upon its own .js file which is not really ideal.
