From my understanding Xenforo uses the new Zend Framwork as a basis for coding. Since I would like to learn this for the long term, I began a search for a suitable text.

I found Zend Framework 1.8 by Keith Pope, published in 2009 by Packt Publishing.

It seems to be very suitable. The development of an eCommerce application is used throughout the book as a basis for teaching. Something that is relevant to just about anyone in the website business. It is written for individuals that have a working knowledge of PHP.

It looks good. I'll post updates as I work my way through the book.

It's just using some components of Zend Framework, it's not using its MVC architecture; though the foundational concepts are similar, the development team has built its own framework.
