Is there any new thing I should do to upgrade from 1.5 to 2.x compared to what I did for 1.x to 1.x?

You guys weren't kidding when you said releases might be faster when the beta process starts. At the third beta already - good job.

It's not really policy -- it is what we have done with the previous beta and also in past betas, but the release schedule can vary.

The estimate would vary depending on how many outstanding bugs there are, how many new bugs are reported between releases, and what items remain on our to do list etc.

It wouldn't be right to give an estimate at this point, but I will say it is very much a target to have a stable release before the end of the year.

Of course people taking part in the beta, albeit in test conditions, is very much so a way to help us expedite the process. The quicker that bugs are found (particularly major ones) the quicker we can declare stable and make the release happen.

for an average user's feedback, that pair of buttons "New post" & "Post thread" looks like some shoddy patchwork done in hurry (neither both are of equal nor matching sidebar width below collectively)
whenever you guys get some time off more important stuff, please try a lil bit of polishing if not bringing dedicated post creation block like "fb's status update dramatics" at index.

I agree that it looks like a bit of a quick hack rather than a well-thought out implementation.

I've made a suggestion here to flesh out the concept and truly guide the user through posting any data type without getting overwhelmed with the organisational structure, whether it's a thread, gallery item, resource etc. And make it easier for them to find and select the right forum/category for that item.

Feel free to add any improvements you may have to it:

anybody else finding member card to member tooltip transition, underwhelming?
though its neat and functional but not doing justice to Avatar updates by users:p Avatar should be shifted above the blue block to appear in full glory with like/comment hover options (comment may add up at user profile).
and whats more strange is that no add-on developer/stylist ever came up with creative member cards alone add-on,they are more inclined to bind & sell package as themes whereas a lot more is there to be done for such things making xenforo beautiful with modular approach.would love to see such full blown comprehensive addons catering to different parts of xen2.0, like membercard/editor/navigation/postblocks/Inbox/thread composer/some Status Update addon like FB for index page etc. bringing more of colors, style and fun to the table.

Hover everywhere makes more sense to me

It's been a never ending debate... but fact of the matter is as compared to 10 yrs ago, now on an average 70-80% of forum users, use mobile devices to navigate the forums... unless, you have a Samsung Note 8, hover is simply not going to work on the mobile devices...

However, there could have been a different UX for "old-school" desktop users like you and me... but for the sake of uniformity, it was compromised... probably, one-day, an add-on would still do the trick... :)

Yeah, I get no joy from using forums on a phone, etc. Most of my forum users are actually on desktops, too. Maybe it's an older generation thing. I see it as a usability thing, though.

I'm 44 and started out on a 300 baud modem dialing in to WWIV BBSs. In most people's book nowadays, I'm nearing that "older generation"

I'm definitely for click/tap over hover. I spend a decent amount of time surfing on my phone.

I agree, this seems to be a step backwards in terms of usability. One of the big things that will stop me upgrading as I know my members will not like this loss of function.

We are running a forum for mobile developers. Still 80%+ of visits are coming from desktops.

I think that it is a mistake to prefer uniformity over usefulness.
It is trivial that if you hover over an element when browsing from the desktop then you will need to click on it when browsing from a mouse-less device.

What I do find confusing is that clicking on the tabs on the left (such as Resources and Members) take you to a new page while clicking on the tabs on the right opens a popup overlay.
