They will be the same:

No, most URLs will still be the same. (There may be some changes for edge case pages, but we are intentionally maintaining old URLs for the reasons you list.)

I realize most people have their own dev installs, but was there ever talk about making a staging environment for XF 2?

Not sure if it has been mentioned, but are more front-end moderation and admin events being considered. Things like being able to modify user accounts on the front end and stuff. Personally it would make things a lot easier and quicker as you wouldn't have to keep popping into the ACP to just remove avatars or to modify profiles.

Will form controls be coming to the public templates, as they are a breeze to use in the admincp and it would be awesome to have them in public templates for better standardization.

This was answered last month:

It's something we have noted internally (amongst some other related elements), though it's not supported yet.

This + front-end phrasing (like IPS "Visual Language Editor") would simply be super fly. Having to go through the ACP is such a bummer. Boards in other languages also have a hard time with XF due to the poor localization support.

Probably not i XF 2.0 though, since there doesn't seem to be that many new features (as expected, since the goal was feature parity with XF 1.5), but maybe later down the road?

When is XF 2.0 going to be released? Somewhere I heard June of 2017, but that is in a long time.
