Xen Notices [Deleted]

@BassMan - Also (back again) :p that particular notice looks ugly, but I've designed many custom notifications or you can customise it yourself if your able to get it looking consistent to your site.

Here's a few custom notifications I've designed so you don't need to settle for the default look (I adore this add-on so it's worth telling you what can be done with it) it'll be the best £10 you spend and it's a bargain at the price for this add-on.

And there's also css3 gradient notifications I designed here http://www.bbsmiley.com/threads/css3-gradient-notifications.222/ though you can use the code as a base template and simply modify the css to other colours to suit your style.

Saves you trying to find all the custom notifications which are dotted throughout the pages.

Excellent! Thank you again!

I have been contemplating buying this add on. I have seen a few Xenforo members using this add on on their sites, I personally do not like "pop ups" when I visit sites - even if they are short lived and disappear. Has anyone had any positive results in sign ups with this add on? I guess ultimately that is it's best feature?

Thanks,

On my forums the main focus for Notifications is not for new sign-ups (though I do have one notification for this). My main use is for getting messages to forum members about a range of stuff, such as whose birthday it is today, discounts currently available at our shop, reminders about adding an avatar, any important events going on etc.

If you're interested only in getting more sign-ups then there are better ways of doing this. If you're looking at a way of communicating with forum members that doesn't necessitate a forum post and/or needs to be quick and obvious then Notifications is for you.

If the notification is dismissible (one of the options) then a Dismiss Notification link appears which will prevent the notification from ever showing again.

To be clear, the dismiss link will only show to logged in members. The only dismissal method for guests is the close button in the corner of the notification and that sets a cookie. If you want more than a session cookie set, then change this option:

And the Xenforo Notice system doesn't get this done?

Hi Chris

How do I go about getting the latest version? I haven't received any emails about any upgrades for a while and having just moved to XF 1.2.2 I was wanting to get the latest. Currently have 1.5.1 installed.
Hi Chris, anything on this?

Cheers

Not in the same way, no.

  • The Xenforo Notice System messages can easily be missed if you scroll down the page to look at forums, threads or posts. Notifications are more obvious as they float in the same position on the browser window as it scrolls e.g. remain in the bottom right.
  • Xenforo Notices, once dismissed, are gone - the user won't see them again (unless they restore dismissed Notices in their Preferences). Notifications can be set so they can be temporarily dismissed and they will then reappear after a specified period of time (they can also be permanently dismissed too if you set them this way).
  • Xenforo notices can only be created from the ACP. Notifications can be created from the ACP but can also be set up from the forums themselves by those who have been given the necessary permissions - great if you want moderators or other users to do this but don't want them to have ACP access.
