Very very very bad editor design!

They are both neutral tones.

Which colour would you suggest?
The TinyMCE icons were blue which I had to recolour myself as my site is green and it clashed.
I'm giving my opinion based on the default xenforo style. I think the bold button should be bold whereas the other don't. Apart from that the S should have a red line. The colour button should have the letter and the bar with colors.

The smiley, the image, video and all the icons of the last 2 blocks should be in color too. Right now I don't see any difference between the first 5 buttons, all are in bold.

If you see this image, you'll notice that the only black and white buttons are Bold, Italic and Underline:

In my opinion, nowadays this is a basic concept and can't be omitted.

The letters really convey what they do as does the way their styled if your looking at them at a glance. But I take a positive away from your post if that is the grievance you have with the editor since a simple style change of the icons will rectify that which will be significantly easier to do than you would have tried with the previous editor.

That would require new BB Code to be implemented in the code.

Hence why an add-on is required.

Quite honestly the angst is unjustified.

Simply recolour the icons to suit your own preference.
This is no different to what needed to be done with TinyMCE if the default colours were unsuitable.

Totally agree.

If xenforo starts re-colouring the images they won't suit the custom style of users sites. This way the neutral colouring fits on all styles and with it being easy to customise, the user has that option to replace them. They fit the default, and serves as a great showcase here whilst retaining neutrality for users with custom styles when they get their hands on it.

Have I mentioned how much the new editor is a vast improvement over the previous edit?

I don't get it.
I could understand hey guys we're busy with function edits but we'll get to it.
But XF is going to deliberately roll out an ugly feature tons of people are saying they don't like already? XF is sleek - XF is tightly integrated - XF listens!

XF has a wonderful vanilla design. Those that love design/ are pernickety about 'my design' or really really need a niche design to represent their board, do complain about it a bit. But overall the great majority seem to like XF basic design.
It certainly looks like trouble was taken to make it soft and sleek and integrated - but not here. I don't understand why this is an exception.

I understand from statements elsewhere on this board that it's actually a minority of admins who redesign. A great many want to use XF out of the box.
Huge numbers just slap on a logo, change a few key colours, and get on the road. So the major market is being short changed here!

The editor is a frequent use item, and we all WANT it to be!
XF did a divinely brilliant design feature of placing user avatar by it to encourage its use. A great deal else is done to ENCOURAGE users to post. So why dump an ugly toolbar on them which doesn't integrate with the rest of the XF design? Surely this is DIScouragement?

We don't get an ugly navbar, and it's dismissed with - design it yourself.
We don't get an ugly postbit, and it's dismissed with - design it yourself.
We don't get an ugly XENFORO and just get told clean it up yourself.

Come on guys. If not now, put it on the pretty soon priority list to link the colour to a pale blue Palette.
Make Bold bold. Colour the font colour button. Separate the Left/ Centre/Right alignment - 2 clicks there is too much.

Let's keep the Beautiful XF tradition!

I don't quite understand why people are pressing so hard for some visual changes to the current editor to be made to suit their own preference. These are merely css edits that can be applied quite easily yourself (and you could write the css now using any inspect element tool). KAM obviously like the current design, make the changes yourselves to suit your own personal preference :)

Seems like sometimes people are just arguing for arguments sake.

If the editor is easier to style chances are designers are going to start including matching editors for their designs (I know I will at least, I just hated TinyMCE).

Especially when the new editor and specifically the spritesheet allows for easy customization it's going to be an easy change one I'm making myself.
