Xon updated User Essentials with a new update entry:

4.6.5 - Bugfix update

• Fix missing mini-avatar-editor-integration.min.js in public redistributable build
• Fixes for 'disabled user with act-as-deleted flag' feature
  • Fix quoting a user didn't show the real username if the visitor had the "bypass privacy" permission
  • Redact username from posts, even if the account hasn't been renamed. As the name is denormalized in a number of places, this is not consistant or fully effective.
  • Prevent logins/password resets/new email...

When disabling a user, there's an option to "Wipe publicly viewable custom fields". It seems this is wiping all custom user fields regardless of visibility (including fields with info we want to retain for admin purposes).

Yeah, I think it just wipes all custom fields. I'll need to add an option to control which custom fields it wipes (or doesn't wipe) as determining what is "viewable" is frankly tricky.
