Please can someone explain what this actually does? I have a lot of embedded youtube videos on the site. Does it play them in a different media player and get rid of the linking to youtube (and the autosuggest)?

Basically what it says in the Overview; It adds more media sites to XenForo, and it provides a couple of improvements in terms of lazy-loading and content shift.

Most people intuitively understand that, but just in case, I'll reply here. I regularly receive DMs asking for personalized support. I reply to 100% of them; Sometimes, it can take a week or two if I'm too busy to say "sorry I'm too busy". Other times, if the message describes a bug and it can be fixed quickly, I do it asap.

So, to answer your question, yes, I read my DMS but I'm too busy to answer. I don't maintain a PHP7 version of the add-on because it would require a lot of time on my part. I've just published some files that may or may not be used to downgrade to a PHP7-compatible version of the files. This will definitely require a PHP dev and I can't provide support for them either. They're not on my radar. If that's important enough for you that you'd like to sponsor their addition by paying for the dev time, you can send me a direct message with an example of the type of URLs you'd like to embed and I'll look into it. If you already know of a website that showcases what you'd like to have in XenForo, you can send me that too.

As far as I can tell, it's working fine. Make sure your adblocker doesn't blanket-block Instagram widgets. The URL below should display an Instagram video.

Here's an example of one that doesn't work for some reason. But does on Instagram itself.
 
From what I understand, the author can disallow embedding on their videos. I see on Instagram that the video you posted can be shared via link or by mail, but it can't be embedded, hence the error message. Unfortunately, it's impossible to know in advance whether embedding will be disabled, so if an embed doesn't work you'll have to manually replace it with a link if you don't want to display the Instagram message.
 
It looks like something isn't working as expected with imgur embeds

This doesn't work:

This could be a permission problem, as the .pdf will display in a thread on my forum, but then again, when I click the link to the google drive .pdf
