The majority of what I do is done with CSS. There are times when I will do a template edit, depending on what I am trying to do. It could probably be done another way, with just CSS, but I am still learning this stuff as well. It's all trial and error.

This is very nice. I love the forum categories the way you did it. My only dislike is the inability to quickly see latest posts but I suppose BD Widget Framework can solve that issue by placing it on the sidebar.
