Implemented  Mouse Over Smilies doesn't show the name of the Smilie

Yes, we changed it to show the title and the primary replacement text. Not 100% sure I like it doing that though.

Oh, I see... Hmm, I think it's better to just show the title, not the replacement text. People will start to wonder what the heck that is after the title.

Losing the colon probably works, but I think it is of definite value to show people how to type the text for the smilie they want. (This is exactly what Skype does, BTW.)

It's of value to people who actually type the smilies. I agree with that. (Don't they already know what to type?) For those who pick it from the list though... Frankly, I thought it was an error at first.

Offtopic, but I always think that Skype (the desktop application as it is on Windows) has just a horrible UI. Really quite terrible, which is amazing for me for a application that is used by so many.

I still use Skype 2.8 on my Mac. The new Skype UI is horrendous.

Fully agree - showing the code to type is very useful.

I agree that is has value indeed to show the code for a smiley. But can someone explain to me why this is so necessary in every single posting? You see, people need to know how to type in a smiley... when they actually are in the process of writing a post. So, why then are these codes not shown when you are in Xenforo's wysiwyg editor and mousing over the smilies inside the smiley-dropdown? Wouldn't this be the most logical place where people expect to have such tooltips? Why do my users need to see tooltips on smilies that were posted by others... it has not much to do with the smilies they want to post when they are in the process of writing their own posting, does it?

They will only see the text if they hover over the smilie for more than a second or so.
Surely that's not going to be an issue for anyone?

This for me is far more important than knowing the meaning of the smilies I posted myself.
I already know what they mean, I posted them.

I want to know what the other person was trying to convey if it's not immediately obvious from the smiley itself.

I don't see them. If they are there, then my feedback is not valid anymore, but as I said... my feedback is based on the fact that I do not see the codes inside the smilies dropdown, where I ;) expect them.
I misread you, and was responding as though you were debating the worth of the smiley tooltips in general, hence why I have subsequently deleted my post.

Aha, just did a CTRL-F5 and there they are... I was too quick in my feedback this time! Good to see they are there... I already couldn't understand the reasoning to ommit them there, hence my feedback.

Brogan,

Please read my feedback ;). I am talking about the code, not the meaning/title. It is strange that one needs to be depended on the postings of other people to mouse over their smilies to get the code. That was my point. Based on the fact that I did not see the code in the wysiwyg editor. Thanks to Kier's feedback I found out this was not the case (apparently I needed a code-refresh in my browser), so my initial feedback can be disregarded.

No problems Kier :). As I stated earlier, now the need/worth of tooltips has become actually higher:

That raises the question if it's handy in the first place to include smilies in a product that are difficult to understand. Yes, with the inclusion of these new smilies in XenForo the meaning of some of them is unknown/not recognizable anymore... so the need of tooltips (thatare luckily included in the smilies dropdown) becomes bigger.

I want to know what the other person was trying to convey if it's not immediately obvious from the smiley itself.

Yes, so do I as I stated before. If you're gonna include smilies that are not obviously recognizable (as is now the case in XenForo), then a tooltip is a must. But... is it such a must to also include the code on every single smiley in every posting? I believe not, as was (if I read it correctly) the point of Ati:

Oh, I see... Hmm, I think it's better to just show the title, not the replacement text. People will start to wonder what the heck that is after the title.

A code is only needed when actually typing in the smiley, isn't it, when you think about it logically? So, for me it would only be necessary/be of real use/value inside the smilies dropdown. No need to repeat it on every single smiley in every single posting. Just a minor thing, but I sure do understand Ati's point. But apart from this nitpicking tiny thing, I believe everything they now did with the smilies and the way it all works is certainly an improvement. The smilies look really great: they fit in perfectly in the surroundings of XenForo's UI.
