I feel the difference between bold thread titles and non-bold thread titles is enough to distinguish between threads that have new/unread posts in them. I would stop using the "star" image (
list-item-new.png
) for this purpose, and consider using it for a new purpose-- to designate "hot" threads (threads with lots of recent activity), like vB3 did with the normally blue thread icon to an orangish color. (

This suggestion has been implemented. Votes are no longer accepted.
I'm fine with the current blue image in terms of location (lined up with title), color (blue), and quality (edges don't look jagged to me, looks nice, shiny, and round).

Here's my idea. Green dot on the left = unread. Chat bubble on the right = you have posted in the thread.

The function of the green dot could be further extended to serve as a button to mark the thread as read without having to open it. And the dot does not necessarily need to be green. Blue like on the iPhone may even look better.

I love this solution. I really like the bubble-design and using a small dot to show a 'new' thread. This mockup from Nick fits xenForo's style best. But I would change the green dot to a blue one, just like Apple does it on the iPhone. Why? Because the colours Green/Red represent a function/a status. Blue is neutral. Just think about it, it really makes sense what I am saying. :)

Further, I do not quite like the dot design that xenForo uses now. It seems a little bit non-fitting with the style... is it a mini earth globe? Is it a screw? You know what I mean. Again, I love Nick's mockup.

That is perfect, but really like the green, it means 'go', and makes it inviting.

Clicking on the balloon could go to last post you made in that thread, in an ideal world.

and something like that ? a little frame around the avatar which indicate that you have posted in that thread ... (just an example)

Wow this is still going on???

Seriously this thread started because the star was confusing fair enough...
it was changed to a bubble but was all over the place...
so it was floated to the right but it wasn't obvious enough...
so they added this little bullet and it fullfil's all criteria!!!

so why are we still complaining, any further changes you want to make can be done when you get access to the template system. This implementation WORK's it is noticeable it is clean it looks ok... why change it?

I don't see anybody complaining. I see people posting suggestions and feedback on what they feel works well and looks good, and what they feel doesn't.

From this the developers are gauging the optimum design to go with.

Perfect!

I have to say I'm yet to be completely convinced by this implementation. Now that i see it live, I dislike the separation it introduces between the avatar, username and thread title.

Still considering options, but leaving it as-is for now to get on with other stuff.

Cheers for looking through all the feedback. This means a lot.

How about KURTZ suggestion but then with a lighter color?

Agreed :D I am sure there are more important elements that need attention... you will come up with the ideal idea when you least expect it :D

Sorry I really don't see it like that when people are saying I wan't bubbles to the right after that has already been tried and failed and moved on to the next suggestion...

Sorry but this thread is best put to bed for a bit, let Kier and Mike think it over and if they need more suggestions they can come back and revive this thread...

Honestly before long this one thread will out rival the test thread full of spam for testing the pagination links...
