Any sort of roadmap for Xenforo 2.3 ?

They would benefit more from contractors they can contract on demand to say work for a few days debugging X feature and finding the cause of X bug.

You'll be glad to know XF have hired me on a short term very specific basis. I'm working on 2.3.

I've been authorised to tell you it will be here soon.

Also XF 2.3 has been delayed as a result of hiring me to speed up development they have had to spend 9 days getting me up to speed with development.

XF 2.3 will be released $soon + 9.

Hope this helps.

I think the XF developers are a little gun-shy on giving dates/timelines currently. They've given some and been roasted to a well-done state when those didn't pan out.

Why is it hard for devs to just communicate and humbly say that the original date/timelines proposed are now pushed back due to X reason? That’s just something that’s always kept me wondering which does more damage than good when talking this long of durations.

Once in awhile they do but they get buried as replies in these actual complaint threads. There is never anything official or in an official area that keeps us up to date.

Yeah I guess I figured there would be more of a specific communication stream - or reasoning posted. The answers I’ve seen in random threads are kind of “general answers” that constantly keep the community guessing of what’s actually going on.

Yes, they let fires build up and then put out fires in these threads, that's the best we have right now unfortunately. The last one was about waiting to approve one more suggested feature before the HYS begins, or something to that effect.

I have been following this thread since I started posting my own reply and opinion over here back in September 2022.
See:
I agree. The lack of communication can be frustrating, but it can also be exciting. Look at Apple, the only teaser they got is their invitation. It would be fun if the creatives at XF could create something similar.

But what frustrates me most is the communication of some staff members. Some staff members have a certain way of.. replying, in a very short and cold way. I completely understand they have tons of comments to reply to, but a little more friendly would be a level-up to their communication style.

I also want to give another shout-out to @sbj who made the following post (which has been closed, wonder why tho).

Some of you guys might want to have a look at it. The data is probably outdated by now, but it has some solid points.

I stick to the fact that XenForo should be more open about the current development of XF 2.3.

In the beginning we all, staff included, made some fun of the development progress... but I am actually happy to see that other customers now also start asking questions about the "real" status of the development and what to expect.

We're obviously not asking for the full change log, because there should also be some surprises that create that "wow" effect, but some communication would be nice to receive, just to know what direction we're going to.

I actually asked them via a support ticket just yesterday.
Once up they will post about it in the announcement and hys boards.

Papers please. Who has authorized you to share this information?

Yeah you're right, I should make another update in my community as well. It's mostly guilt and thinking I'll get another update out soon. I really don't know what to tell my community members when I can't even meet my own goals.

The bright side is, I'm not lying, and neither is XF, we are all definitely working on the next versions of our software. Maybe XF needs a dedicated person who observes development processes and plans to look out for possible setbacks and calculates real world expectations for meeting goals.

Kind of, is a competent programmer and can observe patterns to predict what could go wrong, and how far of a set back, and use this information to determine the appropriate size of an update etc, and can communicate setbacks to the customers, etc.

It's difficult to communicate these things in ways that won't upset a portion of your customers. I work at a company where we also very rarely communicate timelines on features externally - even if we're very explicit about dates being changeable / early roadmaps etc, we get upset customers and customers leaving the product citing these roadmaps changes.

XF is also a small business, and comms / customer relations can take a huge amount of time and resources. Larger companies have dedicated teams working out how to message things and not upset customers.

That said - I do wish there was more information available, and I'm reluctant to renew on XF at the moment / convert other sites over to XF. But I'm also in the "hobbyist" category with only a small number of sites - even if I stay on XF for the next 10 years, the income generated from just me is pretty low.

The devs/team are also pretty responsive on the site and on support tickets - so most customers are probably not too bothered. I don't get the same level of service or responses from the developers for most products I purchase.
