XF 2.4 general discussion, feedback, complaints, random off topic posts, etc.

I don't have any problems with the staff on here.
Sure i'll admit to possibly being annoying to them but hey if i see something that's against the rules i usually send them a dm with the link to the person's profile.
These days i'm usually supportive of them all. Even if I notice that paul or one of the other staff here are stressed out.
They have a lot going on behind the scenes.

Conversations are private, by principle, but not secured, i know.
They are private from other members, but any one with DB access could look at them at any time.

If your site has any minors, or you allow transactions between members, you need to be able to monitor conversations. The vast majority of sites should never have to, but using the add-ons by @Xon and @Stuart Wright I've prevented a few thousand dollars in scams, and been able to step in and prevent some other issues.

I do not know if it should be in the core, because it is very open to abuse from administrators (as is login as user), but it is an important tool for specific situations that is definitely needed at times.

You don't just report it?
I would if i had access to the report button. I'm not here to make a scene but i find it is quicker just to send them a dm and get it removed.
The other day there was a pornbot spamming the site.
Dm'd kier about it and it was dealt with really quickly.

Direct message can be viewed by admins, that's why it's not called private message. there is no 100% secure protection, except Telegram

I shall have to rename it to DM Monitor.
Historically we have had so many people return after a trading ban that we identified a need to monitor DMs for their phone numbers/addresses/email addresses so that we can spot them if they attempt to trade again.
It’s been effective over the years but it quite niche because it requires serial DM offenders to justify its use. The use of classified forums is the example where it’s most useful.

Yeah, it's impossible to have a classifieds without being able to monitor DMs to try and prevent fraud. So many scammers these days it's insane.

We have a rule that anyone advertising must have 50 posts so we more or less know they are regular members with a legit interest in the forum topic. No, it’s not 100% foolproof but it helps. We did one have a regular and popular member pull off a sort of fraud but it was not done via DM anyway.

Buyers do not need the 50 post quota but buyer fraud is not so common as sellers should always wait for payment before shipping.

I've reported a clear dox (Name, address, photo) and saw staff online. It was still up for like 5 minutes after I reported it, so I sent a PM, and only then was it immediately addressed.

Sometimes you need to PM.

We know how ineffective the votes are, so their usage and purpose is irrelevant.

Voting for features should not be implemented inside of a forum. It's confusing alongside with the like button.

A better solution would be a dedicated add-on with a tab on the navigation beside the resources or media tab etc. where you could also donate money to boost your idea.

Here is a financial app that has this type of voting system. I'd like to see it on xenforo as a dedicated app.

Somehow i don't think they want to have something that they have to pay for to put all of their suggestions on.

You have to learn to think through your suggestions. Because it might just come back and bite you on your backside.

Disagree, you already pay a subscription license so user pays of feature requests is a poor additional model.
I agree with the confusion of likes vs votes, XF is in dire need of the ability to restrict/remove reactions on nodes so that votes is the engagement.
That said, neither option by themselves will resolve the issue of ineffective votes for any real purpose in the XF suggestions context.

An observation.

One of the things that I've always loved about forums is that we are the original foundation for so many creative uses. We can offer classifieds. We can offer voting. We can offer long form articles. Forums are the foundation for all of these specialized apps. ♥️

Right, but the way they present the contents is still at its origins.
