If 2.0 is not about features beyond 1.5, what's it about?

If you are expecting killer features in 2.0 you might end disappointed.

2.0 is all about a new architecture with 1.x feature parity. This new architecture will allow the devs (and also add-on makers) to more easily add new features to the software in the future. So if you want more features you should wait until 2.1

I'm not saying that 2.0 isn't going to have new features, but the main priority is to reach feature parity.

Thanks for your updates, Chris. We forum admins have so much invested in XenForo that it's helpful to have a post every so often even if it is only to say, "no real news to report, but here's what we've been doing." I thought that Super120's request was reasonable and that your replies were helpful.

Overall, five stars. Would purchase this thread update/bump again.

Unfortunately, the nature of what we're doing means that these kinds of updates will be very rare.

As I said:

Even after that, still lots of things to do where time is best spent doing said things rather than talking about stuff that's ultimately vague or underwhelming. Rest assured, once we have something you want to hear about, you'll hear about it.

Talking about adding the 1.5 features to 2.0 was an exceptional case to clarify something specific.

Otherwise it's really just going to be:

no real news to report

And that isn't worth hearing about so you won't often hear about it

I haven't kept up with the discussion over the past few months so apologies for the repetitiveness of this but is there any news, hints, etc about the 2.0 scheduling yet?

We're still on 1.4 and I need to put aside some time over the next few months to update to 1.5 but as it always means re-applying lots of style changes and testing lots of addons it ends up being quite an effort. If there's any possibility that XF 2.0 might be out late this year or early next year I'd probably hold off.

I know I'm not going to get an answer of when a release might be but if I could get a "definitely not in the next 4 months" kind of statement that'd be useful...

I'm wanting to renew my license to upgrade my forum to 1.5, however I'm also wanting to not have to renew again for 2.0, would now be a wise time to renew my license or should I wait a bit longer?

Or you could renew now anyway and then do so each year. Consider it as not just access to new upgrades and support but supporting the developers as they continually bring us better versions of XenForo. They do have to earn a living after all.

I'm more than happy to support the developers, however I run a rather small operation and most expenses come out of pocket, so ideally I'd like to get the most I can for my money. I'd also not like to be paying $50 for just one update from 1.4 to 1.5

Then hold on your renewal until XenForo 2.0 gets released (which isn't going to happen anytime soon).

You aren't paying for just that update. If 1.6 comes out in the next year you would get that as well. You also get support..
