well I could not get the impex to work.. I am now trying out phpbb's converter..

I'd say it depends on the size of the database and how fast your upload speed is
huge database + slow upload = Long time to get it uploaded.
I would do it on the server itself.

I am trying to use Xenforo Converter what would be my URL to the files its asking for on my local server..

@AdamD @Brogan how do you restore just a database backup? Cpanel/phpMyAdmin won't let me do it because the file is to big. Can I do it with MySQL restore a MySQL Database?

Not sure, how large was your database?
They may have file upload limits.
Do you have shell/SSH access do you know? IS it a shared host, or dedicated server?

2. which import is better phpbb or MyBB?

And what do I do with the complete import? is it going to do it all over again?

Question should I do this on all converts or wait till doing it on Xenforo?

After conversion, especially check the permissions assigned, rebuild your search index which is not converted and also make sure files got copied correctly, for example avatars and smilies.

Should I do this before converting it to Xenforo?

Your old search index was not converted. Searching will always yield an empty result. To create a new search index go to the Administration Control Panel, select Maintenance and then choose Search index from the submenu.
