Who is sticking around?

I haven't been very actively posting in the community lately due to the environment around here, but I'll be honest and say that after reading this thread, I feel better to know that there are others like myself who believe that a lot of negativity has been going around here and that a situation about which we, the customers, really can't do much, has been blown way out of proportion.

And I also feel better to know that there are others too who stand for what they believe in, and are willing to support XenForo till the end (which I personally don't think is anywhere in the near future either). So for all that, thank you everyone! :)

And a special thank you to the mod developers, the style creators and those who contribute towards style enhancements as well as other resources. And of course the moderators as well. You all are trying to make the best of the situation as it is, no questions asked...and for that, you have my appreciation and well wishes. (y)

If I could code add-ons I would do it for free just to support XF and because I hate IB for destroying vB (IMO). I also would stay to the bitter end to fight back... I seriously don't get it that people leave now.

'A friend in need is a friend indeed'

Some people have really shown their true nature I think. Short sighted, focussed on short term profits, not caring about the future of the product they have profited from.
If a friend ignores me and does not return my calls, they are no longer my friend.
It is their choice, not mine. Friendship is a two way street!

Fair point. I will say this though (and then I'll stop because I don't want to derail the thread). If I suspect or know a friend is in so much trouble that he is probably stressed out / burned out, perhaps depressed, and signals that he needs time alone, then I am more forgiving and will try to make it easier on him while he deals with his problems.

Unless that friend is telling you half truths and then you have to start weighing up the Ifs, whys and so forth. It's a 2 way street, friendship can last a lifetime, friends can be friends who would stab friends in the back it's very rare true friendship is genuine enough to last the course, course being the average human life.

Personally, I would not make excuses for a friend, nor would I lie for a friend because then by doing that you start making scapegoats of innocent parties which really does you more harm than good and eliminates any validity, reputation even morals you may once have had.

Honesty, it really is the best policy when all is said and done.

XF did the worst thing to me and my users. I can't really enjoy any other forum running on a vB, SMF, IPB... Users across my boards express similar feelings. So I'm sticking around because there isn't really a better choise. Well, not for me anyway.

a forum like somethingawful uses the same badly customized ugly-ass crappy forum for the last decade and does not rely on a bag of tricks to keep people coming back. My users enjoyed vbulletin 3.8 (whatever the last one was anyway) for years and we had no issues there... now we use xenforo, and I really don't care if another version takes x amount of months/years/decades. The forum works great, does what the label said it would, and the community thrives.

I REGRET NOTHING (y)

Didn't know you were working on it so I can see why your offended.
Generally we don't about what we're working on for a reason (mainly because people get impatient and if we announce a specific deadline people get mad at us if we miss it or pester about processed up until release). Galleria unfortunately was something announced that was a long time before XI came about and the prototype that existed back then was scrapped in favor for what we have going on now. I completely understand the impatience/annoyance with Galleria on that end and definitely not saying some people's concerns don't have validity.

And on that note, we'll just tinker away in silence until release. It's just easier. :)

Oh okay that makes sense.

And yes people do get impatient.

Aries run it.

I'm not a developer, but I'm starting to review my options, and work out a contingency plan.

This is one of the reasons why I've tried to keep my forums as close to default as possible as far as 3rd party plugins go. :)

With that said, I'm not going anywhere right now.
I can't speak for the future, but I'm happy with xf atm. (y)
Same here. I uninstalled a lot of addons. Had to create some of my own because I realized I can't rely on people all the time. The best thing about xenforo is the lack of having to worry about constant security updates. My site's closed from registration so I don't have to worry about spam. I mean you could literally just leave your forum alone for months and not have to worry about it getting hacked due to some stupid security exploit and your site will still be awesome because it's Xenforo.

8thos, Shelley - yes... You raise a few points that contributed to me posting this thread. Three Galleries I invested in and I have yet to see any of them - and yes, Dec 2010 is a long time ago.

Not wanting to point fingers to anyone nor trying to say anyone did me wrong. A donation is just that - a donation - nothing more.
(but I won't be called a liar either...)

Therefore...

I wanted to know, of the developers that saw my post, which ones (to their best effort) planned on continuing their efforts - because, in the end, I am still looking for a few addons - like a Gallery.

Mods can kill this post whenever... I think I have gotten all I can in terms of answers to the original question.

Thanks

I wasn't calling you a liar, I was stating that there was never any drive for money to kick start the project. If you offered a donation in private, we were never told of it. I'll let Kovifor know about this post if he doesn't already.

The project was never abandoned, however things had to be done first: planning out XenFluence, setting up all the coding standards and setting up behind the scenes stuff. It has been worked on, at least as far as the concept. Like I said in another post, since the original post I've done a lot of research into how things should look because we don't want to release a half assed gallery system. We want to release something that will want to be used as much as XenForo itself is, and it is a major part of why things have taken so long as we have to do this all within time limits due to our jobs and day to day lives.

Anyone who has released an addon, or announced something knows just how much suffering you get to deal with .

This idea about friendship being a 2 way street. This maybe true, but what does it say about you when you leave everyone else behind, simply because of 1 or 2 others?
