Very very very bad editor design!

I don't know how many times I wanted to remove formatting from something I cut and paste from mobile, but I couldn't.

Good riddance to bad rubbish, TinyMCE

Redactor makes the display more ubiquitous across all devices, it is encompassing more devices for a better product, not making it worse because of a big toolbar.

Of course it is. It makes the toolbar more mobile friendly.
I didn't understand, what does make toolbar more friendly? I've made some tests with mce4 and having several lines of buttons doesn't seem to be a problem for mobiles or for responsive design (the last thing must be confirmed, I've just made a test with a very small width).

Edit: I get it sorry. The trend is to make toolbars bigger. I'm not sure if it's for a more comfortable mobile use (scalable icons are more important) or if it's just about fashion.

Too many posts.

I was commenting on Morgain's post about the toolbar being bigger than TinyMCE. It's now more touch friendly.

Default:
1.webp

30 seconds editing:
2.webp

Changing the icon size from 24px to something like 18px and then repositioning the background image would make it even smaller.

All of the colours and gradients can likewise be changed very simply.

I honestly can't see what the issue is.

Needs to be in core, or less than 25 seconds!

Actually, I changed the zoom on the .redactor_toolbar li to about .80 (5 seconds) to be easier, but it seems to be pretty easy either way.

Just because a moderator states something and makes a claim doesn't make it true. ... Who stated this btw?
Far as I remember it was Brogan and personally I believe what Brogan says. I've always found him very very reliable. Maybe a couple of mistakes out of thousands and thousands of statements.

I'm not going to disbelieve every statement every person makes - yes I'm a Sceptic, but there has to be limits or that way lies madness.

this is easy for you to modify
I'm glad about that for those who like designing. My point which I obviously did not make clear, is that leaving an XF area without integrated design does not - integrate with XF beautification policy.

This toolbar does not match XF.
It looks like what it is. a bolt on from somewhere else.
Apparently thanks Chris the larger icons that make this more obvious than on the old editor have good reason (noted for redesign) but the size aggravates the colour ugliness.
@Chris Deeming thanks re size issue.

I'm not sure how I can explain it clearer (as you would say if positions were reversed!)

XF is excellent for those who want to redesign. That's the population you are referring to.

XF is ALSO excellent for those who DON'T want to redesign. It's sleek and pleasant, and the design is consistent and integrated. This toolbar is not.
My suggestion therefore is that its background gradient be made @primaryLightest as default. That way it integrates better, and will adjust gracefully for those who just do a limited style edit by changing a few key colours.

That is your opinion.
I'm going to nitpick here and offtopic so apologies for that.
If someone makes a statement and doesn't signal it's a quote, or citation, then yes it's their opinion. This doesn't need pointing out. It's obvious.

Miaow!

How would someone propose the editor be restyled?

Perhaps, instead of criticising it without reform, some mockups can be made of alternate styles and then presented via a suggestion for the staff to consider.

So your not exactly sure to put it briefly? Not a compelling response that validates such a claim, which is all it is. Well take it from me (which i'm sure you won't) that the majority of xenforo's I critique have replace the default Node Icons and used custom variations.

And TinyMCE was different?

tinymce.webp

TinyMCE did not use any of the colours from the default palette either, not was it integrated with the Style Properties.

No @Andrej, I like it too.
Although I will restyle it slightly to remove the border radius, and change the hover colours, etc.

I am the only one who actually like the look of the editor?

Nope, I like the default redactor editor visual also. But me being me if it can be customised, it will be customised. But I do like the visuals since it looks more uptodate and cleaner.

@Morgain - it should be as easy as login to the ACP > Appearance > Style Properties - change the editor colours. Bish, Bash, Bosh - job done. (y)

Change the icons? Create or download the new sprites (there'll likely be a few in Resources once this rolls out) - and upload the replacements. Bish, Bash, Bosh - job done. (y)

I would suggest it's going to be easier than you might think and hopefully something even the most tech-phobic admin can do.

Cheers,
