Rant: I hate the Forum Home, it sucks.

To jump back in here. For savagerebirth.com I want to (if we have time to mess with it) make our forum index like blizzard does theirs. We already "copy" a lot of what they do if you were to compare the sites.

We have less forums so would suit us well I think. We already do the popular topics thing instead of the useless who is online and stats.

I like that over the traditional forum home.

Latest Messages. Looks cool.

A lot of nice designs in here. But I prefer it traditional cause at least I can see who the last poster was, what time and day it was made and the most recent thread. I can even see their avatar with Waindigo's Avatar addon.

Why would that be useful / helpful ? To accomplish what ?
How many posts do you get a day ?
Besides you .... do any members use the forum home like you do ?

It's useful because that's what their used to, it's helpful because it helps them see what's going on and it accomplishes giving them the stats they need. Do you run a forum? If you did you would be able to answer most of your own questions.

Some members like to see what the thread is about.... and by who. Especially if that member like a particular person for a lot of threads.

If they could combine the stuff their posting now with the information those members need, then there would really be some progress.

I asked why you thought it was helpful.
I almost never use any of what you are saying is helpful.
You don't have to know what uses it serves. Subconsciously, you should already know what uses it serves, and I just outlined the uses.
So http://www.avforums.com/forums/ is missing the boat according to you ?
Yes, because the user doesn't know the two important things about "new activity." What thread was posted in, and by who?

Without those two "questions" being answered, the user is more likely to ignore that particular forum. And go straight to his favorite forum, where he posts a lot in... This is bad especially when you have many forums like AVForums currently does.

What's new is waaaaaaaaaay better at what you are describing !

What about this approach ?
http://xenforo.com/community/threads/rant-i-hate-the-forum-home-it-sucks.35903/page-5#post-439503
with a Latest Threads sidebar.

Yes, but most people are lazy. They prefer having those information staring at you in forumhome.
As if Lazy people are going to read this:
xenforo.forum.home.latest.thread.webp

I would love to see some "click data" to see how many people actually click on Latest thread.
Are they newbies looking around ?
Do those newbies prefer What's New ?

Carlos: do you use Latest thread here at Xenforo.com or do you use Alerts and what's new ?
