Partial fix Likes links will not be deleted from deleted user

And several disadvantages.

You would have to make a suggestion, if one doesn't already exist, in the Suggestions forum for that.

First I would like to have a (qick) fix for the problem.

To illustrate the problem @Mike .
I once searched my website for these "Like Links".

Code:
SELECT * FROM `xf_liked_content` where like_user_id not in (select user_id from xf_user)

upload_2014-11-4_8-2-56.webp

This means over 50,000 internal links go unnecessarily to pages that do not exist

And that are only likes not the tagging links. That would be additional.
This is a massive waste of resources. You get a higher bounce rate of user who are dissatisfied. Higher bounce rate is a google ranking factor.

And dont forget Google. Ask yourself:
Which website would you trust more?
The website of a competitor who has linked all internal website without error or the webmaster with more than 50,000 internal error on his website?
Google would be stupid not to consider it, because it says a lot about the quality of a web page, if a webmaster knows what he linked.

That is far from accurate.

If you have 50,000 likes not associated to any user, it is unlikely they will all be links. Bear in mind that the likes summary only shows a few users before saying "and x others".

Chances are, a large portion of that 50K will be not directly linked to.

It's pointless discussing it further though, isn't it? Mike has resolved that issue for the next release. A rebuild is triggered upon user deletion now that would prevent them from being linked to.

As for the links in posts, there's nothing that can be done about it unless they were marked as nofollow. However for the reasons already stated, this does not matter.

You are not going to get penalised for 404 links. You should have a considerable amount more content on your board that would far outweigh the comparatively small number of 404s.

How do you know?

Generally, 404 errors don’t impact your site’s ranking in Google, and you can safely ignore them.

404s are a perfectly normal (and in many ways desirable) part of the web. You will likely never be able to control every link to your site, or resolve every 404 error listed in Webmaster Tools. Instead, check the top-ranking issues, fix those if possible, and then move on.

Remember: Google say:

If some URLs on your site 404, this fact alone does not hurt you or count against you in Google’s search results.

http://googlewebmastercentral.blogspot.de/2011/05/do-404s-hurt-my-site.html

But what if there are hundreds or thousands of links to 404.

I also distinguish. Some 404 pages can be normal but I'm talking about the links online to 404 pages. That is a problem and a bad singnal

What say the Webmaster of practice.

.. 404 errors cause you to lose rankings? Should your SEO (search engine optimization) plan include fixing things like bad links, broken images and 404 err0rs?

Absolutely!

404 Errors and broken/pages links clearly cause you rankings to suffer

And read that:

...and if you have lots of errors, it sends a signal to Google that your site isn’t maintained actively and will eventually hurt your overall rankings.

This is perhaps one of the most misunderstood aspects of SEO. How Google uses signals relative to your website. So, if you have lots of duplicate title tags, Google will likely view all your title tags as not being a good representation about what that page/file is about and will likely discount the weight it puts on title tags across your entire site. If you have lots of 404 pages on your site, Google will discount the value your other signals are sending them.

Regardless of your opinion, nothing more will be actioned against this report.
