I'd also like to draw a distinction between XenForo related services and XenForo resources, such as styles, add-ons and graphics. These should remain in their current forums until we have our resources management system ready to deploy.
Services being hosting, conversions or anything that doesn't fit in resources?

I have always intended to allow XenForo-related services to be announced here on XenForo.com, as I think that forum software supports a large ecosystem, and the community benefits if there is a central repository of information, resources and services available.

Very good solution, glad that has been cleared up

If the community would rather that they are restricted to particular forums, I think I'm happy with that.
I agree, but "restricted" sounds the wrong word.
Such things should be "encouraged", but as the software grows it will make sense for all parties if such posts are in a "marketplace" type forum. This will also be beneficial to the vendors as it will make products easy to find for those looking for them, so I wouldn't see it as a restriction, more an embracing and rationalising of the concept.

I for one LOOKED for the appropriate place to present an offer. Nothing but off topic exists. I WOULD RATHER it be in the place people are LOOKING to buy, than somewhere general.

Its an overall over-reaction by those that clearly feel it should be "us four, and no more"

At some point, they will get past the fact that the initial beta people are not going to be the "only ones" here, nor do they become "elite" by being here first.

We all have licenses, we all use the software.

...equal playing field

...so let's play nice...together.

I like the idea posted here of forums where only licensed members can post their announcements, this would deal with a lot of spammy advertising, and the fact that the service vendor had purchased a license would show a certain degree of buy-in on their part, which should impart some degree of confidence to those considering using the services of that vendor.

I would be surprised if you would like styles, etc to be elsewhere. I think the point is the difference between things dedicated to xenforo, or other parties who have normal services and just stick a xenforo sticker on it as it might as well applies to them as well. Such as hosting. What you said in your post sounds very logical and I can't see how that wouldn't work. Limiting 'we can offer you this' threads to licensed members has a huge thumbsup from me.

Exactly what id like to see!

Kier +1 for a separate Marketplace forum - especially the part about it only being available to xF license holders; buy a license, you get to advertise. Quid pro quo!!!

We all need to remember that as xF grows, so will this web space and the amount of people using it. We'd be well advised to try to keep it civil as we move forward or else risk losing valuable people (and resouces).

Cheers,
Shaun :D

We don't even need a marketplace "mod" right now,. Just create another forum for this stuff, so that only licensed members can create a thread, offering their services.

As others have said it is significantly more than one thread, and growing daily.

I would welcome a forum that those with licenses can advertise their wares... and I would welcome an active and vigilent "discouraging" of such stuff in Off Topic.

The Community here is a lovely one, and for those who might not have been here too long, it is warm and fun... it is NOT just a ready market for *insert product/service*.

Please remove the Ads from Off Topic, and either place them in another more appropriate forum, or bin them if they are from non Customers.

As Floris said, we who provide services could all do this... all day.. all of us! You (we community members who value the place) will end up with nothing but 100% spam in here if it is not addressed.

The community has spoken in this poll, with the overwhelming majority wanting it moved out of here.

:)

I very much agree. PLEASE, create a marketplace forum and move these sales threads to it. Give us back our Off Topic!

3-5 threads out of 1,758 causes such a fuss, shocking...

I think you miss the point Russ.. it is the thin edge of the wedge... and as Xenforo takes off there will be more and more, far better to take proactive measures now, than to suddenly find the Off Topic Community is a barren wasteland of pointless boring spam.

And it is not 3-5 there are 3 threads on the current front page I consider out and out spam or Ads.

The other point is that I could put up endless "Hey, check out this...cool skin I am thinking about doing" "Wow I just released a new Skin!" "20% off All Skins at Xenique for 24hours" etc etc etc threads.. as could every other Style creator/modder/host/ whatever, Off Topic would be very very very boring place very very very quickly.

I get the point completely, but these guys who have offered things have been trolled beyond belief. My motto is literally if I don't like a thread I'll stay out of it, sure I think selling some random domain on xenforo.com for $1000 that has nothing do with XF is out of the picture but I'm not a moderator, nor is it my forum. It's not my place to tell him what belongs in an area designed specifically for things not related to XenForo but still business related.

This doesn't bug me in the sense that KMA have made it clear to design some sort of resource section down the road so I'm in no rush to police threads, just as EVERYONE else shouldn't be in a rush because we have moderators/owners for that. XenForo comes with a built in Report button if some of you didn't know, if you think something is inappropriate, report it and let the true decision makers deal with it.

To start a thread and get so worked up over 3 topics in the past week just seems absurd to me.

One person's "Absurd" is another's Valid concern ;) One person's Troll is another's Staunch defender of the Off Topic Forum.

It's all about Respect.

I respect this community, so I don't Spam my wares all over it.... I would like others to have that same respect.

The poll says it all, only 3 people consider it acceptable... wonder who they are.

The poll actually says... keep the sales thread but make a section for them, and Kier stated above he always planned to have a section for this. So until then I'm assuming the threads should be banned?

And fact... he encourages it as it would do well for the community(in his way).

For the record I didn't vote ;p
