That's fair enough but the rest of us are paying customers of both XenForo and XenPorta. If any customer starts to troll the support thread then I hope the relevant action will be taken in order to keep the support thread relevant to the product and not about past issues that can be discussed elsewhere.

I dont feel any trolling has been done in this thread yet. I got the impression that Jaxel's reaction was to head off any trolling. Let's hope it stays out of this thread. The XF community is generally trolling free, let's keep it that way.

personally, I have no interest in what is being declared on XenAddon website. This is XenPorta 2 (Portal) PRO [Paid] message thread, for asking questions and hepling each other get this addon fine tuned. Jaxel has done a fine job in releasing this addon and he has demonstrated his ability and willingness to provide excellent support.

nobody really is aware of exactly what has transpired, so to state 'for no reason' might just be an assumption on your part.

I just wish he offered us some sort of option. Even if he made it paid for and the fee went to a charity of his choice. That way he isn't profiting off of making an add-on for his add-on as such, but he's making a stand against it. Either that or we crowd fund it to be made.

Now XP2 has reached where I need so I bought it but now I cant integrate it with Showcase or Stock Trader with XP2. For me the Portal is my most important addon because I dont like WordPress and I want to move away from that.

When addon developers dont play nice, it's the customers that suffer.

I believe Bob had XP1 blocks made, and supported them fully. It was a free download, so he did the best he could with what he could work with.

He's explained the stance of his decision. It may hurt some customers, that is fully a possibility. However, I don't see many doing the same towards the other end and getting his support in getting them added either. It's not all on Bob. He's went out of his way COUNTLESS times to help out not only myself, but many many other customers.

Bob has also already stated this, for others to undertand what is allowed:

Yes. 3rd party developers are more than welcome to develop XenPorta 2 blocks for any of my addons. I am in NO WAY preventing them from being created, I am just not going to be including them anymore nor will I spend any time doing any custom development for XenPorta 2. There are some really talented young developers within the XenForo community that can build XenPorta Blocks for you and this gives them a great opportunity to hone their development skills while allowing me time to dedicate to the core functionality of the addons themselves.

Can I give a 3rd party developer a copy of the addon so that they can develop on their local machine?
No. That is a violation of the license agreement and you can have your license revoked if you do that. You can give them access to your development environment or they can contact me for development license (a discounted license for development purposes only).

Can 3rd party Developers Sell blocks they develop?
Yes. as long as they own a regular license or a development license. If not, then the client they developed the block for has to be the one to sell it.

Not exactly sure how this is getting turned around into Bob being a bad guy, or the hard one to work with. It's not anything remotely like that.

Also, I've been in discussion with a couple of developers already about getting some blocks made. There are possibilities out there. Just please don't try to complain about one dev for not supporting one side, but the other side gets a pass.

It's not Bob's "fault" for not supporting XenPorta 2, it's his decision. I don't think he's made any promises which addons he would support, but from my experiences with him, he's been up front and honest on what he WILL support.

In my opinion, I would think that Jaxel would try to expand XP2's footprint by providing these widgets himself, even if they weren't free. It appears they would be pretty popular.

Just because he chooses not to support XenPorta is his decision. It isn't like he owes anybody anything. Either walk away from his products, or XenPorta 2, would be my advice.

Yeah it's not like Sheldon has a history of trolling Jaxel Taken in isolation you're right, looking at the history (which you must be aware of) and it's just another trolling attempt and got the response it deserved.

I'm not saying Bob is to blame or it's only one persons fault. As a customer I'm not interested in allocating blame. Me and many others like both devs products and hopefully someone (even a third party) will make blocks to make them compatible.

If I can secure a development license for Showcase from Bob, I can probably work something up.

Look forward to it. Could you do some @sonnb and @Chris D gallery widgets while you're at it. I'm not sure which gallery to get but since I'm using XP2 as my portal then whichever has the better XP2 widgets available sooner will be the automatic choice.

I don't own either of those add-ons so no promises there, unfortunately.

For those of you who are new to this like me, and running the Post Ratings add-on as well...

I discovered if you un-check "Enable custom article layout", Post Ratings works just fine with XenPorta 2.



Just thought I'd share cause there maybe people like me.

I went back to XenMedio for my gallery as it more than meets my needs. XenPorta 2 comes with reqired widgets.
