Weāre very much focusing on backwards compatibility with XF 2.4. This will be a smaller release with a focus on maintaining backwards compatibility.
In other words, an add-on compatible with 2.3 should be compatible with 2.4.
It should not represent double effort to be compatible with 2.3 and then 2.4. It should be the same.
As ever, itās entirely up to you whether you wish to upgrade or not. 2.2 is a very fine point to stick with if thereās reasons you canāt upgrade.
Thanks for sharing the exciting news that 2.x will continue to receive shorter and more regular updates. It certainly makes our license intrinsically more valuable, and injects enthusiasm across the entire Xenforo ecosystem to have more to look forward to!Some of the things weāre in more of a planning and research phase at this point so we donāt have a set list of features aside from the editor.
But we have 3 devs that will be primarily working on this and a clear target for release and a commitment not to get too in the weeds with things so there isnāt a protracted development cycle.
I guess ālow hanging fruitā is the best way of describing our ethos right now. It will be a smaller scale release.
Weāre very serious about it being a shorter development cycle. Weāre not even ruling out the possibility of 2.5 before 3.0. So rather than adding feature upon feature like we were guilty of with 2.3, things that arenāt appropriate for 2.4 that canāt be delivered at a relatively short notice could always be deferred (be that to 2.5 if that ends up being a thing, 3.0 if appropriate or even 3.1).
The style changes are remaining with 3.0 as I understand it from the announcement and this thread. 2.4 should still be using the current 2.x styling.I have already spent a significant amount of time customizing my forum's styles, and based on what I read so far, I would have to redo a lot of it for the new UI changes. I already have the default blue, a grey, a dark, and a minimalist grey theme/style. If the only change was for me to set my grey theme as "light" and the dark theme as "dark", that wouldn't be a problem. I don't need or want to make a new version (light/dark) of any of my themes/styles.
