Xen Notices [Deleted]

Maybe the wording could be changed slightly but the same instructions apply to pretty much every single add-on available here.

If you drag the contents of the upload folder to the root folder of your XenForo installation, then all of the files go into the right place. It is that simple, really.

Hmm, so you are saying if I do that then those directories will not replace (and therefore empty) the existing ones?

As it stands, I never upload the directories with matching names to those that exist - but instead just the CONTENTS of them into the parent directory (with the matching name).....

Am I doing it wrong? I am fairly certain that if I did what you say it would erase all the other add-ons!

You're not doing it wrong, you're just doing it the long way round.

Most FTP clients work no differently to Windows. The default behaviour is to merge the contents of identically named folders, and it will then prompt you before overwriting any files that are identically named.

Little bit difficult to demonstrate, but hopefully from this screenshot you will see that on the left I have the contents of the upload folder, and on the right, I have dropped the files on top of the root folder (public_html in my case).

The contents of styles, library, or js do not get replaced, instead it is merged. Existing files are never removed.

It would be handy if the updated zip file download is labelled correctly with the version number for quick and easy organized storing when we download it too please :)

I will have to check if my FTP program merges as you say! That would save a little work.....

I use Fetch on the mac......

Yes, I checked and it does operate as you say! Maybe it's my long time "conservatism" about replacing files and directories on servers! I am still going to do it the long way for now!

Sorry for the confusion!

In your product description, can you also add this buy link

http://www.deemit.co.uk/pages/notifications-buy/

So people know that you also accept Google Checkout and not just Paypal

I think that would be informative and also help your sales.

If you've not noticed already... Google's fees are less than Paypal. And Google automatically deposits funds into your bank account (no holding balances like Paypal) So you, yourself collect more. Would be nice to have both options on that page, to show you have options.

Just a general idea. The choice is yours

It was already there!

By the way, guys, thank you to those of you who have reviewed.

If anyone else wants to review, it would be much appreciated.

Most will merge by default but on a mac some will overwrite by default so just be a little careful.

Yeah best thing to do is just test it.

Create a new folder on your FTP called TEST.

In it, upload two text files, 1.txt and 2.txt.

On your computer, have a folder called TEST.

In that one, put two text files, 3.txt and 4.txt.

Upload the TEST folder to your FTP.

Result: Your folder on the FTP should now contain four files, 1.txt, 2.txt, 3.txt, 4.txt.

Yorick updated Notifications - powered by Gritter with a new update entry:

Oops! Some bugs fixed!

1.1a Fixes:

  • Dismiss Notification link no longer appears for guests. Guests cannot dismiss notifications permanently. (This is the same behaviour as Notices).
  • Fixed bug which made the Dismiss Notification appear at the top of pages above the nav bar.
  • Fixed jQuery bug which meant the notification IDs didn't match the styles, therefore breaking the colour picker.

Sorry about the bugs, and thank you all for reporting them.
