Xen Media Gallery (Media Gallery for XenForo) [Paid] [Deleted]

I've been very tempted by XenMediaGallery for some time but there are a couple of things that I really need for my site. One of them is user albums, which I believe is coming in the (soon to be released?) 1.3. The other is category permissions - allowing certain usergroups to see some categories. So, a couple of questions:

  1. Will category permissions also be coming in the 1.3 release?
  2. I know you have stated that the price will rise to £60 once user albums are incorporated. Will the price rise happen immediately with the release of 1.3, or will there be a short period for folk like me to see the user albums in action on your site before the price rise?
Thanks :)

1. Category permissions has always been a desire for me so it's definitely high up the to-do list. (Not sure how high yet...)
2. I haven't necessarily decided on the final price increase yet. But whatever happens it will be detailed in advance.

I'd buy it now so you won't have to worry about the price increase. That's what I did. I can't use the gallery now but I will be able to later when 1.3 comes out.

Thanks for the answers, Chris, much appreciated that you'll give users notice on the price increase. :)

Regarding the category permissions, it's good that it's up on your to-do list. I'm sure others want this too so it would be good to see this at some stage. In my case, the reason for needing this option is that most of my site is open for guest access and that's what I'd like for much of the media. However, there's some media that I'd like to only make available to registered members (photos from a recent annual meet that folk don't want available to the entire world).

Payday is coming shortly and I'll definitely be considering this. :)

So I have to start talking properly about Xen Media Gallery 1.3 sometime, right?

As many of you know, XMG 1.3 development has been slow due to other projects I'm working on at the moment. This will likely continue, but I am very dedicated to getting XMG 1.3 released as soon as possible and a considerable amount of work has been done already and the work will continue whenever I have time.

Something I've been working on in bits and bobs for the last couple of months is this.

So I can confirm that Face Tagging is available in Xen Media Gallery 1.3:

In case you've missed the little tidbits I've posted elsewhere, also confirmed for 1.3:
  • Importers for XFR User Albums and XenMedio
  • Ability to rotate images
  • Albums (private, public and shared [to a list of users] albums)
  • Extra permissions (permissions for tagging, downloading images etc.)
  • The ability to mass edit the category display order numbers in the Admin CP.
  • Tag users in comments (default XF 1.2 @tagging
  • Collapsible categories
  • Unviewed Media count on navigation tab.
This list isn't exhaustive, of course. More just the list so far :)

What about disk space quotas per usergroups?

So.... sometime within the next three months perhaps? Before the next major holiday or world-wide sporting event?

Another vote for the Photopost importer (I know it's not coming until after the next major release), but showing interest here as I've been wanting to drop Photopost for years. In fact, the PP gallery is so bad that I've removed it from search engines via robots.txt as I believe it does more harm than good, so I've been painfully waiting for a cool XF-based solution to appear and promote gallery functionality to my users again. Keep up the nice work.

It's already a feature.

Set your parent category as above so that no usergroups have access to upload directly to it, and the result is that it becomes a "container" category. As a result, it will show media from all child categories.

Hey there everyone ! I'm SUPER excited for 1.3 but for now I seem to encounter a bug ...I can't add any extra category in media :( So I cant' post anything at all. In the "appereance" tab of CP it doesn't show up to add a category...) Am I missing something ? I'll be using UserAlbums until 1.3 but just can't wait!

Initial setup steps:
  1. Install the add-on
  2. Set the Admin permission. Admin CP > Users > Administrators > Your Administrator Account > Manage Xen Media Gallery
  3. Create categories in Admin CP > Applications > Gallery Categories
  4. Set user permissions in Admin CP > Users > User Group Permissions
