✔️ Prizma 1.4.0 Released 👻

Leaving Prizma — export to XenForo Media Gallery (XMFG)

A gallery is a long commitment, so this release makes the way out part of the product.
  • One command moves your gallery into XFMG. Categories, albums, media, comments, five-star ratings, tags, reactions and person tags are written into XFMG's own tables. Files are not copied — the new attachment row points at the same stored file, so moving a 200 GB gallery costs no extra disk space and takes...

Thanks again for the earlier clarification about object storage. One quick follow-up now that the FFmpeg video compatibility conversion has shipped in 1.4:

If XenForo’s filesystem is configured to use Cloudflare R2, do the H.264 compatibility copy and automatically generated video cover frame also get written to R2 through XenForo’s abstracted filesystem?

I just want to confirm that the shipped 1.4 implementation still follows the object-storage architecture you described earlier, with any local filesystem use being temporary processing only rather than permanent media storage.

Yes to both. The compatibility copy and the generated cover frame are stored through XenForo's abstracted filesystem, so on your setup they land in R2 just like any other attachment.

The local disk is touched only while the conversion is actually running. FFmpeg can't read or write object storage directly, so Prizma copies the video down to a temporary file, converts it, uploads the result to R2, and then deletes both temporary files — on success and on failure alike. Nothing that ends up as permanent media stays on the server's own disk.

One practical note, since you're on R2: while a video is being converted you need roughly twice that video's size free in your temporary directory. It's short-lived, but if the server has a small local disk it's worth keeping in mind for large uploads.

So the 1.4 implementation still follows the architecture I described earlier — object storage for everything that's kept, local disk for processing only.

✔️ Prizma 1.4.5 Released 👻

VK Video, VK Clips and Rutube — now actually working

1.4.0 listed VK and Rutube as supported sources, but pasting one of their links said "not recognised". This release fixes that properly and goes further than the original plan.
  • VK Video and Rutube links are accepted — every public URL form we could find: vkvideo.ru/video-…, vk.com/video-…, the vk.com/video?z=video-… form that VK's own share menu produces...

(y)🤩 Prizma — Roadmap

Here is what is planned for Prizma, in order. Each release below is a planned feature package; the numbers in between (1.5.1, 1.5.2 …) are deliberately left free for quick fixes, so an urgent bug report never has to wait for the next big release.

No dates. Each package ships when it is genuinely ready, and the order can change if what you ask for changes it.

1.5.0 — Albums & Collections
Finishing albums properly: pick your own album cover, arrange media in the order you want, and share an album so several members can upload into it. Plus a new idea alongside albums: collections, which gather media that already exists in the gallery without uploading anything twice — the same photo can sit in as many collections as you like while still living in one place.

1.5.5 — Podcasts & Audiobooks
Series come to Prizma: a podcast is an ongoing show, an audiobook is a finished book, and both are episodes in order. Prizma remembers where you stopped and lets you carry on from that exact second on any device, keeps playing while you browse the rest of the forum, and moves to the next episode on its own. Long recordings get chapters you can jump between, and a "Continue" row shows everything you have started but not finished.

1.6.0 — Automation & insights
Point Prizma at a podcast's RSS feed and new episodes arrive on their own. Paste a direct audio link and it plays. Add the "Listen on Spotify / Apple" badges your audience expects. And see what is actually being watched and listened to, this week rather than since the beginning of time, in cards you can place anywhere on your forum.

1.6.5 — Timeline reactions & clips — Danmaku (弾幕 / だんまく)
Reactions stop being a list underneath the video and become part of it: a comment written at 12:30 appears at 12:30 for the next person watching, either floating over the video or in a panel beside it, whichever you prefer. A heat bar shows where a video made people react — and from that exact moment, one click turns it into a short clip you can share.

1.7.0 — Discovery
Collections that build themselves from rules you set ("everything from 2023", "all panoramas tagged travel"). A media picker inside the post editor, so adding gallery media to a post stops being a hunt. And search inside subtitles: find the moment somebody said it, and jump straight to that second.

1.7.5 — Content gating (Content Blur)
Show visitors that something good is there without giving it away: selected media appears blurred with an invitation to register or upgrade. Done properly — the file itself is never sent to the browser, and the page follows Google's own documented approach for gated content, so your search rankings are not put at risk.

2.0.0 — Watch parties with Realtime CHAT
Watch together, in sync, in your own gallery, with reactions flowing as it plays. And when the party ends the reactions stay on the video, so whoever opens it tomorrow gets a little of that evening back.

😇 Tell us which of these matters most to you — the order is not set in stone, and customer requests have already changed it more than once.

These two features sound amazing. I would be most excited about these for sure.

Thanks again for the clarification on the R2/FFmpeg side of things. That was exactly what I wanted to confirm, and it’s great to know the converted video and generated cover frame still go back through XenForo’s filesystem abstraction while local storage is only being used temporarily during processing.

I also really appreciate how quickly Prizma has been moving. The 1.4 series brought a lot of substantial improvements, and it’s been encouraging to see features actually land rather than simply remain roadmap items.

The new roadmap looks excellent as well. I’m especially looking forward to Albums & Collections, particularly the collaborative album functionality. I can already see some very useful community applications for that.

The Discovery work also caught my attention. Being able to search subtitles and jump directly to the moment something was said could become incredibly useful once a gallery has a substantial amount of video content. That’s the kind of feature that could make older media genuinely discoverable instead of eventually disappearing into an archive.

I’m also extremely interested in the 2.0 Watch Parties with real-time chat. That one really jumped out at me. The project I’m building is heavily centered around community and real conversations, so letting members watch something together while reactions and conversation happen live alongside it could fit incredibly well. That’s definitely a release I’ll be keeping a very close eye on as it develops.

Podcasts and audiobooks look interesting too, especially the persistent playback and “Continue” functionality.

Thanks again for continuing to be so open about Prizma’s development and for taking the time to answer the technical questions. I’m really looking forward to getting some hands-on time with it and seeing where the roadmap goes from here.

✔️ Prizma 1.4.10 Released 👻

Five releases have gone out since 1.4.5, and almost all of them came from customer reports. Here is everything in one place.

Licence validation on servers without Sodium (1.4.6)

  • Validating a licence failed outright on hosts with the sodium PHP extension switched off, which meant the add-on could not be activated at all on those servers. Prizma now ships a pure-PHP fallback (paragonie/sodium_compat, ISC licensed) that loads...

✔️ Prizma 1.5.1 Released 👻

This release finishes albums, and adds a new idea next to them. Most of it comes from one detailed post by @smallwheels, who asked five specific questions about how albums behave. All five are answered here.

Albums

  • Pick your own cover — and it stays picked. The cover used to be whatever the newest upload happened to be, with no way to say otherwise. You can now choose any item in the album, and the next...

❓ Quick answers

I don't like rounded corners. Can I change that?

Yes — one switch in the admin panel makes cards, stages and strips square.

I don't want a modal overlay when someone clicks a card. I want the content on a normal page.
There are three choices: modal overlay (default), the media page as a regular forum page, or a minimal full‑screen lightbox for images. Direct links and search results always open the media page.

I want a 5‑star rating instead of like/dislike.
Both exist — pick one in the admin panel. Switching only changes what is displayed; both sets of data are kept either way.

Our theme already has a left‑hand menu. Will the category rail collide with it?
Move it to the right, or switch to the horizontal category bar. Both are single settings.

Do I have to use all seven media types?
No. Enable only the ones you want; the rest disappear from the wizard, the sidebar, the type pages and the search filter.

We don't have FFmpeg on our host.
That is a supported configuration. Video conversion and automatic poster frames simply stay off; everything else works exactly the same.

Does it work with S3 / Cloudflare R2?
Yes. Prizma uses XenForo's abstracted filesystem for everything it stores, so your media lives wherever your board's filesystem points.

Can members upload a huge photo and melt the server?
Set a maximum upload size and a maximum image dimension; oversized images are resized down on upload rather than rejected, so nothing is lost from the visitor's point of view.

Can I hide the whole thing behind permissions while I set it up?
Yes — the gallery, each category and each ability are separate permissions.

Is any demo available?

Is possible to import images via rss?

Thx.
— DEMO —

On the RSS question: feeds in Prizma are built around YouTube. You paste a channel or playlist address and the gallery follows it from then on.

The field does accept any RSS or Atom address, though, and an entry gets imported whenever that entry's link points at a provider Prizma recognises. For images that means Flickr and Imgur — a feed whose items link to Flickr photos or Imgur posts will bring them in as images. I checked this against the code before answering rather than guessing.

? What it will not do is follow an ordinary photo blog. If the feed's items link to article pages, or straight to .jpg / .png files, nothing is imported — those links carry nothing for Prizma to attach a media item to. So "import images via RSS" works for those two hosts, not as a general mechanism.

If the real goal is getting a lot of images in at once, the two practical routes today are bulk upload (drop many files together and they publish as one batch) or, if you are coming from XenForo Media Gallery, the built-in importer.

If you have a particular feed in mind, post the address and I will tell you exactly what it would and would not pull in.

erkanshi updated Prizma — Media Gallery for images, video, music, e-books, panoramas, shorts & live streams with a new update entry:

✔️ Prizma 1.5.2 Released

Rotate a photo after upload

  • Two menu items on the media page, left and right, for anyone who can already edit that media — its owner, and moderators. No new permission to configure.
  • Rotating also regenerates the thumbnails and refreshes the copy sitting in visitors' browsers, so the new orientation appears straight away instead of after a hard refresh. That second part is easy to get wrong and is the reason "rotate" features often look like...
