Yes. There is no separate permission model. You get the usual group permissions, plus per-category overrides when you want a category to behave differently — for example one area where members may upload and everywhere else read-only.
Where are uploaded files stored?
On your own server, through XenForo's normal attachment handling. Nothing is uploaded to a third-party service.
Does anything load from a CDN?
No. Every player and reader is bundled and served from your server.
Can members create their own albums?
Yes, with their own privacy setting per album, independent of category permissions.
I already use XenForo Media Gallery. Can I move my content over?
Yes. An importer is included and runs inside XenForo's own import framework. It runs on the same installation, does not copy files, and leaves your existing XFMG data in place, so the move is reversible.

Nothing stops working. The add-on keeps running and no features are disabled. You simply stay on the version you have until you renew.
