It’s too hard to maintain as a fork. However, for all its faults, there is still value in WordPress (and hence, would be in a fork).

This is also why it should be avoided. You even need to install a plugin to take the site offline. It offers nothing. It really is super-easy to get a site going with WP, there is a plugin for just about everything
XenForo's core/framework is really good... it's a shame it's boxed into calling itself a forum. If XF was also a commercial framework or commercial blog, there's a lot more potential customers than ones looking specifically for a forum.
I doubt this would happen, but if it did, I would see them going the fair source route: https://fair.io/about/So XF open sources a core framework and basic blog add on for free.
XF Community, Gallery, Resource Manager, ES etc. all remain paid 1st party add ons.
All of a sudden there's a best in class free blogging platform and framework that's way more developer friendly and modern than WP.
Influx of developers results in a huge boost to the 3rd party ecosystem.
A proper CMS / Advanced custom fields system could be released 1st or 3rd party to help fill the CMS gap side of things.
Profit??!
Wouldn’t need to open source it. That’s a different beast. Be a commercial blog/CMS platform is what I would do… honestly even if it’s the same price as XF now (just give people the option to install blog and/or forum). A blog/CMS that matched (and exceeded) what WordPress does out of the box could be banged out in a week if you used the XF framework. So XF open sources a core framework and basic blog add on for free.

Making XF 3 to be ready around 2030Would open up a whole new revenue stream…
Just make it the same product imo... when you install, you pick if you want to install the Forum and/or Blog "applications" (which really are addons underneath it all).Next Xenforo product = Xenforo CMS Platform![]()
You're hired.Anyway, that's what I would do...![]()

Oh yes add ecommerce product and we're all setJust make it the same product imo... when you install, you pick if you want to install the Forum and/or Blog "applications" (which really are addons underneath it all).

Done. HahOh yes add ecommerce product and we're all set![]()
This is an interesting take. I know that in many occasions you and other devs praised the framework, especially since the re-write. But I thought you and your sites are exceptions. Like ofc you can turn this framework into something which has nothing to do with a forum yet use it as an engine to run other type of sites. But from what I understand now it is flexible enough for it not to be just an exception but with the right strategy the "forum software" could expand into other "software" territories. But I think we are already behind with current developments for the "forum" part that...
And now anyone who has ever speculated anything about anyone online please form an orderly queue...@Forsaken do you realize that you are continuing to write innuendos about Matt regarding the possibility that he uses substances that could lead to a lawsuit?
XF CMS framework
Next Xenforo product = Xenforo CMS Platform(Xenforo Framework)
The xenForo Articles system is already better than Wordpress in many regards and once the editor is improved it will be even better. If Xenforo did make a CMS platform ... who would be the competitors ? (There must be existing products already) (How good are they?)
Wordpress have one of those. If Xenforo did make a CMS platform ... who would be the competitors ? (There must be existing products already) (How good are they?)
I don't doubt that is pretty good. The xenForo Articles system is already better than Wordpress in many regards and once the editor is improved it will be even better.
Now, it's okay that I love XenForo, but you also have to be pragmatic in saying things. Honestly, what is your basis for supporting this?!The xenForo Articles system is already better than Wordpress in many regards and once the editor is improved it will be even better.
