What would be a showstopper for you during purchase, if you could get a copy -right now-, in regards to add-ons? Compared to other BBS solutions or what you are using right now?

A couple things which would be really cool (I'm still making my way through this new forum so apologies if some of these things are already integrated).

i. More variety or flexibility in how CMS content is laid out. The options given in vb4 aren't really great.
ii. a stats plugin - which shows recent posts, top posters, active threads, etc.
iii. The ability to port a forum (vb4) to xenforo.
iv. The ability to easily code/alter skins/themes
v. Thread rss ability

I'll keep adding them as I think of them. And I really need to navigate around the forum. I'm really liking what I see if that means anything to anyone. Great job!

EDIT 1: vi. Ability to view xenforo through iphone, blackberry, android and other mobile devices.

Support +1 for you.

Good question, Floris.

I am unable to purchase this (yet), as it doesn't come with:

- Integrated Blogs.
- Integrated CMS.

This was the reason for me to buy vB4 in the presale (in the hope that we would get a great CMS and improved Blogs and Forums, but we all know how that turned out). I seriously need those two additions. I mean, vb3.8 already had Blogs, so for me (and from a bussiness point of view for Kier&Mike I would think) it would be natural that XenForo will offer Blogs in the future (and an importer to make the transistion from vBulletin 3 or 4 easy). However, the integrated Blogs are more important then the CMS for me at this point in time.

Further, I have been suggesting an Instant Messenger/Chat (like Facebook) for so long to vBulletin. In my view this is a KEY element in being able to offer a true social platform where people want to come back to/be involved in. Attracting visitors and let them come back is a big priority for our platform, obviously.

As has already been mentioned, a decent hook/plug-in system. Support for basic integration with third-party applications, in the form of an API, would also be nice (e.g., something like MediaWiki's api.php).

I think vBulletin was great until they added a lot of extra features to it that just weren't good. I say keep the forum simple and make it extremely open so people can build on top of it. Maybe have an app store for XF and take a 10% cut off of plugins.
Also, instead of trying to create a blog or cms... how about creating a plugin for wordpress and calling it done? You have to ask... is anything you create really going to beat wordpress? If not why not just use that?

Why not use "Wordpress" is a simple answer. Integration. Some "administrator", like me, want to have all site-elements, like blog, cms, forum in one design and in one control-panel, a "bridge" is not the same.

To be able to migrate my forums without loosing essential functions and content, XenForo would have to support:
  • Good performance for big board and high traffic boards. Should be able to deal with 10.000+ concurrent users.
  • Reputation system. Can't afford to loose 90.000 reputation comments
  • Social Group Forums.
  • Blog
  • Reviews (to replace GARS)
  • SEO (to replace NuSEO)
  • Wiki (To replace NuWiki)
  • Gallery
  • Profile styling
  • Downloads & media system
  • Link exchange management
  • CMS / CMPS
  • Donations / subscriptions / advertising / affiliate store / financial system
  • Chat (full fledged chat)
  • Spam management
  • Bounced mail management
While having this all as supported XenForo functionality would be far superiour, well coded addons by reliable companies would work as well. Mind that GARS, NuSEO and NuWiki are all abandoned vbulletin products. The developer of Links and Downloads manager has passed away.

The most important thing is that XenForo should provide a stable, reliable platform as a foundation/basis to develop advanced software applications upon.

The things I would like are not very different from what I've seen written here:

CMS - as easy to use as possible!
Gallery
Spam management
Profile customisation
iPhone application

There are probably loads more things but that will do it for now!

I'd need an arcade. Everything else I could manage without.

I'd quite like to have the "quote highlighted text" mod but to honest that's just a bit of Javascript and I could probably convert it myself. But not having it wouldn't stop me moving.

In fact on my site we've already decided we're going to use the conversion as a "de-cluttering" exercise and get back to basics, we have too many mods that are not essential and in some cases cumbersome.

So, arcade is the only essential and I'm 100% confident someone will do one before too long.
