WebP image add-on for XF 2.1

Update: Withdrawing this request for now. Just realized that a significant portion of my users are still on MacOS Catalina (10.5), which doesn't support WebP.

Looking for developer to create addon that converts incoming attached images to WebP, as well as a utility to migrate existing images (attachments and avatars) to WebP.

Image optimization with WebP support​

Arguably, we could have talked about this in our bumper Boosting performance entry but it wasn't quite ready to be shown at that point. (I started working on it this week and I haven't yet mastered the art of time travel).

Initially the scope of our WebP support in XenForo 2.3 was to merely allow users to upload WebP files and have them correctly displayed inline. This would have been a positive change on its own as the format becomes more prevalent across the web, but it doesn't really do much on its own to solve the issue of disk usage...

This one works well. I'm using it on 2.2 until I migrate to a stable 2.3.

Thanks for pointing that out, but that doesn't include the ability to convert existing uploaded/attached images to .webp format.

You can probably ask @DragonByte Tech for a custom extension.

The official built in works great. I upgraded yesterday to Beta 8, set the option, and optimized all of mine. Everything worked flawless.

They are not doing conversions for that one as its free. You'll need to pay, assuming they are taken on work. Does the beta 2.3 convert existing images?

Yes it converts all your existing attachments to webp if you want it to. You just have the rebuild the optimize images option.

Awesome. Once all my default plugins are migrated and I've got a new style ready, 2.3 is inbound for me. At this point, especially with web 2.3.4.5 SEO, speed, optimization and modernisation is important, especially being we are a 20 year old forum.

This is what I am finding also so maybe a few more years before webp
