The silence is deafening and concerning...

I agree something is very wrong.

But to play devils advocate, maybe they are just trying to get the product ready for release?

Why would they say anything now? If they say anything, they just get criticized for it.
i think thats mostly because they keep not updating when things "change" again....a few months is one thing, 6+ months is something else....thats messing with peoples emotions and stuff lol

The last update was in June
it's now mid october.
I suggest if you haven't got the latest version set up and ready to go please get it done.

They are probably just doing stuff. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Maybe they are trying to figure out how to make XF 2.4 faster, but it's a tough problem to solve because 2.3 is so fast fast (even when testing it in the worst possible scenario... ****ty phone on a ****ty connection and no browser cache), that the only real way to make it faster is for the page to be done loading before the request is made. Not an easy nut to crack...

FWIW - it's been more than a year since I made a post on digitalpoint.com, but I'm still around doing stuff.

Funny i'm looking at the similar threads that are locked because of people upsetting the staff here.
I'm thinking not this again.

I don't think them posting / not posting on the forum is a big deal.

Not sure what happened to the promise of faster release schedules though. 🤷‍♂️

i was sort of hoping to not upgrade for at least 3 years after 2.4.....lol......like these long times between can actually be better in some ways, but not when major functionality like editor replacement is hanging up all your custom work....keep telling your members yes once this release we keep being promised happens that seems to never do...once your kids are grown we will have a nice spot that works and isnt a fight to be creative i swear...i was saying wait for 2.3 wait for 2.3 then right after thats released they tell us the editor is coming real quick.....then it doesnt....adding that all up its years and years.....just saying....

then what will more frequent updates do for third party developers? perhaps not so much work with simpler updates but not really if they still need to check and hear about constant new bugs.....while trying to develop...

im also much more sympathetic to third party developers going quiet time to time, as peoples whole projects arent generally hinging on those....this is different but its still whatever anyway like anything we say is going to influence things....its kind of bad if this is considered a leading platform tho....the editor was a big issue tho, i was so happy to hear and how i remember it was like 2.3 took so long 2.4 will be faster etc....wasnt it? its been so long idk who can remember by now lol.....

things like style variations etc to me, are totally fine to drag about... i really dont care if we ever support that its just looks, but functionality makes the difference...amazingly forums still struggle against social medias because they didnt have the foundation to properly REALLY ADD what they most have to offer, proper digestible detail.....a proper integrated information center that isnt fractured off into many little islands like the media gallery is etc....its a nightmare and really since vb3 fell out i think, imho, its all been one step fwd one step back and a painful eye roll at every one of these promises that fall thru the cracks.....

There's 40 pages worth of 2.3 bug threads they should either solve or remove. If they drop 2.4.add another 10 pages straight away. They do need to spend more time here.
To be fair: Those open bugs are not all related to 2.3. Which realistically does not make it better, as many of them are very old and almost half have not recieved a reply or even a status update like "confirmed". Based on the bug forum it seems that bugs are reported by the users but barely looked at by the team for the most part. I hope (and assume) that this is untrue, but clearly it is another area where very bad communication creates a bad impression. The oldest open bug in this subforum dates back to 2018 (and this does not take into account the bugs in the "future fix" subforum:

The currently 786 open bugs in the "XF bug reports" forum are dating from:

2018: 2
2019: 3
2020: 14
2021: 65
2022: 124
2023: 108
2024: 301
2025: 176
2026: 5

Of those 786 open bugs
  • 375 (so roughly half of them) have not received any reply (those with replies might have replies from anyone inc. the reporter himself, but not neccessarily from XF)
  • 36 have the label "confirmed"
  • 15 have the label "awaiting feedback"
  • 4 have the label "cannot reproduce"
  • 8 are labeled as "third party"
On top of that there are 17 open bugs in the "future fux" forum, 55 in "importer bug reports", 95 in "Media Gallery bug reports", 23 in "resource manger bug reports" and 8 in "enhanced search bug reports".

So a lot of housekeeping to do and overdue. On the positive side there have a number of bugs been closed this week inc. some old ones.
