The Off Topic... Topic :)

Join the NSS, it is kind of like indoor mountain climbing but you do spend a lot of time crawling as well.

This is a link to a map of Lechuguilla. The mapping of it I do not think is done yet.

Some people I used to know that did cave rescue found this one a challenge to get a lady with a broken leg out.

I so love abseiling... nothing better than running down a cliff. Mind you... certainly plowed in a few times losing footing and ending up, upside down, head first into the rock face, but still fun as hell. That just looks awesome... never fortunate enough to abseil down inside caves though. Looks pretty special.

Is Merbau the type of wood?
Yep... it is a dark reddish hardwood timber. Had to drill ever hold, stainless screws at 3 points in each for the tall pieces... and must keep it oiled for moisture retention, otherwise it will dry out and fall apart within a few years, lose its colour, etc.

Everything you see there.... cost a bit over AUD$7,500 to purchase... and obviously nothing for labour as I built it all myself, which took me a couple of weeks.

Show caves are kind of boring. Going into hard ones is fun.

It appears there is a a group in Oz that does the same exact thing.

Doing a survey is exciting as you might get to go where no human has ever been before.

Australian Speleological Federation

6,500 caves are in their data base for Australia. There is your chance to be on a slippery wall.

I had to look up abseiling, we call it rappelling in the USA.
