[TH] Social Groups [Deleted]

Oh okay, I wasn't sure. Downloaded but haven't tested the add-on yet. Just saw Morgain's suggestion and figured I'd throw that in there.
I think the whole point of @Morgain's suggestion is that the user wouldn't have a say about it. As an administrator, you will be able to decide whether you give them the permission to leave the group. You are absolutely right though (in my opinion) that this might not be appropriate on most sites.

I have no problem with that. I'm not saying I disagree with your suggestion, just that it should have a permission for the user to accept or not in the event someone doesn't want to join a specific social group. Granted in your case, you wouldn't really require that. But in most cases where this is meant for social things, a "Nah I don't want to join your silly Farmville group" could be nice.

Speaking strictly from Facebook, users can add you to social groups based on any topic and you get a bunch of notifications about that group once anyone (including people not in your friend's list) makes a comment.

It's like when you're sent a group text message and your phone blows up because everyone you don't know or care about responds to that text message thus sending you a million text notifications.

I have on more question that is perhaps not so obvious and silly. With this add-on activated, I noticed it takes my footer background and inserts it above the bottom breadcrumbs (sitewide). Any ideas?

Check out this page for info on how to hide or move the copyright notice (or you could pay to remove it completely):
http://xenforo.com/community/resources/copyright-notice-by-waindigo.892/

I should note that we are actually moving the copyright notice from XenForo 1.2 onwards to appear below the XenForo copyright notice by default.

Ah okay, I don't mind having the copyright there - just didn't want the big ugly footer background heh.
That seems to be a problem with your style rather than this add-on. But it is not uncommon, which is one of the reasons we are moving it.

Hi there,

Something strange is happening here.

I have created a social category named "Micro-Communities".

When a new social forum is created in this category all is well. When a second, third, etc social forum is created in the category, again all is well. However, when a post is made to any one of the social forums, it displays the same thread in every single social forum created under the category.

Is there a way to fix this?

Thanks.

Is there any way to make the forum/node invisible until a Moderator invites that member to join? There will probably be dozens of social groups and this can get overwhelming with so many. I figured if there was a way to make it so a member can only see the one they are apart of (or invited to), it would help.

I realize a member has to "Accept" though. What do you think?

Or perhaps hide all the other forums in a social category once a member of a particular social forum

This is not possible at the moment. An interesting idea though, especially if they have been invited.

This sounds like a conflict with another add-on. Do you have any other add-ons installed that might affect how forums/threads behave?

I particularly like the "invited" idea as well, this would allow the member to see all of the different social groups until they are invited to join. I don't know how complicated this would be to set up a separate permission mask for "invited" members. Of course, this would only be ideal for websites that primarily focus on 1 primary social group per person (I would assume most are like this though).

I think this would be useful for any set up, not just those that focus on 1 primary group per person.

Giving extra permissions (whatever they may be) to invited users to allow them to experience the group before deciding whether or not to become a member would be a great feature.

I just became some feedback from my users. They wantet to split a thread, but the social forum was not displayed in the target drop down.

Can this be added?

I couldn't find it within this thread, so I apologize if I missed it, but how do you change the URL snippet for the social groups? Right now it shows as "/social-categories/[name of group]", but I'd like to change it to something custom. Any ideas on how to customize that? I've seen it done on other implementations!
