Resource Manager Questions

Hey guys!

I PMed mike with some questions on the RM and he told me to come ask on the forums because other users will be able to answer my questions(Hes really busy and I feel bad for PMing him any way :<).

Just had a few questions before it goes on sale.

I know that addons can make a thread but my question is can you link an existing thread to a new resource/addon/submission or what ever you call them?

Can new submissions be added to moderation for approval? If so do you need ACP level access or can a "moderator" do it?

I might have some more questions in the future but I think those are good ones for now.

The discussion thread is created automatically.

A moderator would need to merge the two threads.

Or, you can use the add-on when it is available - changing thread ID is a permission.

Hooks are being added to the templates.

Can you explain what you mean exactly?

When a resource is added it creates a new thread with a single post.

I want to use the resource manager to post information, guides, tutorials... Here is an example of a great thread created by members which spans multiple posts. Would it be best to split it up into multiple parts? Is that possible?

No, all updates are posted in the same thread and the discussion tab of the resource can only link to a single thread.

Is it safe to assume that we'll see the release of 1.1.4 coincide with the RM release since new hooks are being added?

The RM might look empty if you have less than 10 resources.

Not everyone's RM will have mega stuff ... in fact most RM purchasers will likely have a smaller number of items.

Certainly would be nice to be able to hide some or all of: Current tabs: Latest Updates, Newest Resources, Top Resources, Most Downloaded

I have to disagree. It looking empty is every bit of motivation people will need to fill it. For example, if you're allowing any usergroup to submit resources, they will want to see THEIRS right at the top of most downloaded and top resources. It will soon fill up.

Also, I don't see the point in "Recent Discussions" Effectively, Newest Resources tab will show you the most Recent Discussions.

Sorry, I do not see any discussions or "most Recent Discussions" at the tab "Newest Resources" ?

If threads are automatically created when the Resource is created then effectively Newest Resources == Newest Resource Threads

The first place the RM needs a tab manager is when viewing individual resources.
The second place is the RM landing page.
Depending how people use the RM ... Tabs: Latest Updates, Newest Resources, Top Resources, Most Downloaded may not mean much.
What if you used the RM as an image gallery ? Surely you'd want the Landing Page to be a thumbnails of images.

as I understand DigitalDoctors's suggestion, he is suggesting something different as you are talking about.


He is just saying to add an additional Tab into the RM and put this page into it:

This Tab could be named whatever you like to name it.....

The RM was never intended to be an image gallery.

A gallery add-on would be more suited to a gallery.

People are going to use the RM in many creative ways.

All I really want is some flexibility on what is displayed when someone clicks the Resources Tab.
To have a Tab that is a Xenforo Node Page would be fine.

That would be possible with custom fields.

Which may be in a future update.
