XF 1.4 Positioning the Alert drop drop down

I have a situation where I need to reposition the Alert and Conversation popup drop downs, not in their top position but move them 35px to the left and for the life of me I can't figure out how to do it. Positioning their top height point is easy but moving them sideways is proving most difficult.

In other words:


Any suggestions on how to do this mean feat, is greatly appreciated

If you have many other scripts running it may be the reason for delay too... I'm on shared and hardly notice it (you can see in gif I posted a few posts back).

Just realised why the positioning doesn't work, YES, it does work when the column is on the left side of the page but I have a user option to have the menu column on the right side of the page and changing the code from left:72px to right:72px doesn't work. Works ok in Firebug but it is an element that I can't seem to set in css
