Add-on Must I ask? Arcade

And this is what I mean.... When the question is asked point blank, he goes awol. I even asked several times on his own site- same thing...silence.

Many people left v3Arcade for IPBProArcade when v3 failed to keep up with vB versions. After a long MIA tour, we were promised a new beginning.

As for me, as soon as an author creates a add-on arcade for XF, that's who I will go with and stay with. I have always supported the author financially for providing one and would continue to do so.

I would just like to get a little feedback about who, if any, have plans for providing one and get a little update here or there. No hard timelines...just a statement of intention and an approximate year.
Nope, I don't go AWOL, I just don't visit this forum every day like I used to in the beginning for a number of reasons. My posts above were actually my first visit back here in several weeks.

As far as where we stand with a port, here's the short version (those who know me know I sometimes ramble, so I'll try to keep this short ;)).

Brian is lead programmer of the v3A project and is responsible for most of the major code revisions. I work on the code as well but, at least for this project, you could label me as "Developer" versus "Lead Developer" for Brian. Brian has been busy working on a new vBadvanced project. Since vBadvanced is his primary source of income the vBa projects need to come first. No, I can't say what his new project is, or even what app category it falls into, since that is for him to decide when to reveal.

With him out of the picture for a while with the big stuff my Plan A was for me to give the conversion a go. I actually started going down that path. Kier & Mike have been very helpful when asked & have made themselves available as needed. The problem that came up is, to borrow a well known quote to the sci-fi crowd, "... time is the fire in which we burn." My source of income is my day job as a developer for a US based telecommunications company. I need to pay my bills just like every one else so I am only able to work on side projects for a few hours a week. Add on to that some family priorities in the real world (sorry, but family in the real world will always come first) and I haven't had time to do a proper port. So I tried Plan B.

Plan B was to outsource the port to another developer. Now, bear in mind, v3A is not a profit-maker project. The fact is it actually creates a huge revenue loss for me every month between the dedicated server costs, domains, and time spent working on v3A instead of paying projects. It is why we are always very grateful when somebody elects to go with a branding free license, or a premium forum membership, because it helps to defray the costs a bit. Even with that scenario I was still dedicated to seeing v3A ported, even if it meant at my expense, so I put some feelers out looking for another developer who might be interested in helping out. The results were not so good.

The responses I got back could be categorized int about 4 groups. The first group were responses from people who have no coding experience but thought this would be a good place start. Well, no, this is not the right project for somebody to learn with. The second group were responses from developers with experience but were quoting dollar amounts that were so high that some were just funny. I think the MSRP of my truck was cheaper than some of the quotes. The third group were responses from developers who wanted rights to v3A. Um, yeah, that is not going to happen. Finally the last group were from developers whom I simply don't have faith in. One in particular was somebody who I had actually banned some years ago for PayPal fraud.

So we end up circling back around again. If Brian's work on his new vBa projects starts winding down then we'll start taking about his XF stuff. If I can somehow make time, then I will go back to it. But... if there a developer out there who is experienced with vB & XF and is looking for a fun project to work on and we can come to an agreeable arrangement, then I would love to be able to get the port worked on ASAP.

Thanks Kevin... Appreciate your words.
I have a few developers I'd nominate - but.... :-) That is for them to do... I'm sure they have other project in the fire too.

Well, I do appreciate the update Kevin. At least now I know where we are at. I DO hope that it gets developed and I will continue to support the mod if it does. Again, thanks for the update. Good luck.

Thank you Kevein for updating us on where things stand. I think that's all I've been needing, personally, was just to know what was happening. :)

Thank you for the update Kevin!

Another view......I think all of us that want an arcade would be willing to help pay or would be able to purchase it.

I'll also pledge a contribution. I hereby commit 50 USD to an ARCADE add-on. If it integrates seamlessly with XF, I might add more to that amount :)

Cory, if you have any in mind feel free to give them a heads-up to this thread. If any of them happen to be interested they're welcome to give me a heads-up via DM. I've got a few different projects coming up so before I allocate any funds to any of them this would be the perfect time.

Thanks :)

I'm in for a donation as well.. If this can get coded, I'm in for $50-$100. I'll eat in a couple of times. ;)

The following people have said they would contribute to get this done.

Boatswife
Pope Vipe
Dodgeboard
Edrondol
EntropiaPlanets
Alien
GoBlues

If each of us (and anyone else that wants to) puts in $50, that's $350 right there. If needed, I'd be willing to donate beforehand as long as I knew a coder would be ensured of getting this out in a reasonable timeframe.

What do ya say to that?

I second it. I would donate beforehand as well to help secure development leading to a release. I'll commit to $50. May go more later if needed.

It's important to me because my site stays on vB until an arcade mod is ready. I want to go to XF.

By the way, I'm assuming $50 for a donation and will update my list accordingly. If you would donate a different amount please let me know. Also, if you put in a range (i.e. $50-100) I will use the lesser of the two.
