The amount of bi*ch and spite in that post tells me that, contrary to their claims, they consider Xenforo to be a serious competitor.
+1. A company doesn't keep that detailed a score against another company if they don't view them as a competitor.

To follow up, I just found it off putting how they talk about xenforo, and that wasn't even the only thread. They have multiple posts stating xenforo communities have slowed and stagnated, etc.
The staff also tend to shut down people spreading fud about their own product on their forums, which is funny Considering they have no problem doing it to xf.

Odds are that the actions of one of them during the lawsuit days killed any bit of friendliness that may have been there.
Matt Mecham was pulled into the lawsuit iirc, but there was more than just the lawsuit from what I heard.
It's kind of like the person who keeps heavy tabs on their ex so that they can **** talk them as best they can. Comes off as overly petty, overly aware and unable to let go and focus on your own personal growth.
I can see benefits to both IPS and XenForo. For those who can't afford IPS' crazy high pricing (to me, at least), XenForo is a good option for professional software that isn't free, volunteer work, but also isn't very expensive (in comparison to IPS).
IPS has some nice features built-in like a CMS and Blogs/(advanced) Articles type system. But their pricing is out of my budget for a hobby site.
XenForo with a few paid add-ons is still cheaper than IPS. XF & XFMG + a portal addon or Xon's BBCode Pages addon more than meets my needs (though, I'm using WP and XF both now for easier visual page building). For required addons, I use some optional add-ons I might let expire, not sure yet.
For renewal, XF is also cheaper. $90 for a year's renewal for XF, Media Gallery, and Resource Manger (which I'm not using currently). For IPS, according to a thread from 2022, it's 40 every 6 months, but I'm not sure if that's for the full suite, or just 1 or 2 parts of it.

Unfortunately there's some truth to what Invision says like the slow development and missing user features that people want, but I don't agree that it's dated. In fact, comparing the forum module of Invision to XF, XF comes out ahead, so XF does forums better and it works very well on my iPhone.
I agree that contrary to their claims, they do find XF to be a competitor, since a lot of those extra features aren't needed and the software is just too expensive for the average person, given its business pricing.
To emphasize the point of it being overly expensive, just look at how much Microsoft 365 (previously Offce 365) costs. For around £55 a year you get a whole suite of apps, plus 1TB of cloud storage. That's a helluva lot more product, especially that storage which requires expensive data centres, for a waaay smaller price. One could argue that this is due to economies of scale and I'm certain that's a factor, but I don't think it fully explains it.
Finally, I hate the fact that they removed post numbers and refuse to put them back, even as an ACP option, citing issues with renumbering when posts get deleted and that they're allegedly generally not needed. I beg to differ and in fact, it's a showstopper for me to using their software.
One of the devs even created an add-on once to bring them back, but then it was pulled due to their stupid ideology. I think it's obnoxious to pull such a simple feature and not offer it as an option, especially when their software costs so much money.

$99 or god forbid $169 a month is so much more than any new community would be willing to pay for a forum software (that would then still require setup and customization).
Preaching to the converted, but the product offering I get with my $70 a month Xenforo cloud is perfect for my needs. That, with $100-ish of paid addons and I have everything I need for my community site.

They seem to be salty of how good xenforo is.
Maybe it gives us an idea on how to deal with those people.

i wanted to by tracy's license he had of 4.3 that was still valid but you can no longer transfer them to a new buyer so i purchased his xenforo one.

This tells me that either a) IPS is such a complete solution out of the box that no one even needs any 3rd party addons, 2) that IPS lives in its own bubble and the Venn diagram of vB/XF users and IPS users are basically two separate circles, or iii) that the market for 3p addons for IPS is very small.

I have been managing two forums for many years with many registered users and very few active ones. One is with xf and the other with invision! I find both programs old and too expensive for what they offer. both are focused on the old concept of the forum when in 2024 users use social media and therefore new ways of communicating!! both are missing the fundamental thing, which is a newsletter system that allows Admins to contact their users, which is the fundamental thing for every administrator of a web project!
