Hi all,
We have an old forum still running vB 3 and we're working on migrating towards Xenforo. We've done an import and first off, well done, it went without a hitch and most of our stuff was transferred over properly and in reasonable time (about 15 hours iirc - when we tried Discourse it took 3 days and was still not done).
However, we do have a few issues. We have a few posts with Japanese text in them. These don't seem to transfer over properly. In the original, we get properly looking japanese characters like:
However, after importing to our Xf test board, it turns into:
I did a check and the original vB 3 posts table / column seems to have latin1 encoding, while Xf uses utf8mb4.
Long story short: Is there a way to convert posts containing text like this to 'native' utf 8, or do we have to manually fix these? I take it just setting the encoding on the old database to utf-8 won't actually convert the text?
