Implemented Image and Media gallery must be INTEGRATED

Image and video gallery that is actually INTEGRATED with the forums. ALL images and video that has been uploaded should categorizable, searchable and should be EASILY organized and reused by the member. Take a look at http://www.plupload.com/ for an upload system that resizes the image ON THE WORKSTATION. This is huge, as most people don't have a clue how to resize an image and get frustrated when their 5 MB image takes forever to upload.

I Really think this feature is great because some people wants to share their life with their close friends especially using photos

we just need photo albums and community groups

thanx xeneforo for making my life easier

are you going to add photogallery , album? and if so could you have it

like , public , private for friends and admins to see . And then , hidden , only for user and admins to see ?

i must say i am looking so forward to get me a license of XenForo i cant wait.

I love this idea, mostly. This is one feature that I love about vB, except that they didn't implement it very nice/sleak/userfriendly. I'm very confident this idea have a lot of potential. How exactly have you pictured the process of reusing an image already uploaded when creating a post? Clicking Upload File lets you upload a new image.

I also dislike the idea of having a gallery created for attachments.. It's a good idea to be able to view all of a user's attachments(I assume this would incorporate permissions based on usergroup permission - for instance, an attachment uploaded in a forum that user A cannot see, that user cannot view the attachment in the attachmentslist). However, I'd like some way of distinguishing a "real" gallery from an attachmentslist.

I hate Internet Brands vBulletin 4's attachment system with a passion: http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/showthread.php?328191-The-Attachment-System

My dear God... imagine confronting my novice forum users with such an overwhelming system (which completely seems out-of-line / stitched upon the rest of the forum system doesn't it?)... no thank you. I almost never ever had the need to re-use any of my attachments on vBulletin.com for instance. And I posted a lot over there. In those 2 instances that I did need a previously uploaded attachment, I tried this new vB4 Attachment 'manager', but really.... how I am supposed to find my previous attachments back in a list of 56 pages?!! The only way to get some indication on attachments is to putting them in subfolders in the Attachment Manager and then you have the chance you can find something back. Although the chances are less then 1%, aren't they? I mean come on... do I really need to create subfolders to be able to find my stuff back? How unbelievable user unfriendly is that? Sure, this works on photographs on your local harddisk when you are managing photo's with your desktop OS, but surely a product like vBulletin is a whole different ball game.

Whoever came up with vB4's dreadful system... really. I hope XenForo ltd. actually thinks before putting up it's customers with a system so puzzling as that one.

OMG. That is exactly how I felt.
The extremely cumbersome attachment system in vB4 clearly shows they do not understand forum software at IB.
They certainly didn't know their customers !
I felt it was so bad, that I was more embarrassed for them, then upset that most users hated it. Essentially I LOL'd.
And then I come here and see "Like" "Alerts" and a good attachment system ! S O L D. Bye Bye Internet Brands, good luck with your sites about cars and trucks.

Well for me, if there is a gallery, it should be something like http://www.deviantart.com
That means that the gallery should take over primacy over forums, and that the profile should be focused on gallery elements. (users image collections, users favorites, users categories etc.)

I'm more for a separate fully functional Image Gallery product a la Photopost. Also integrated with the forum, but not part of it.
I like Photopost a lot (I've been using it with VB since ~2002 starting with the perl version.

And I can see the advantage of keeping software lean, focused, and bloat-free rather than trying to do everything with every piece of software and recreating the wheel over and over.

But I also would like to see some advantages of integration;first simple things like one upload system for users to get used to, easy insertion of gallery photos into posts and easier creation of a member gallery rather than having to upload images twice, once to the forum and then adding them to your gallery as an afterthought.

Traditionally there's also been the integration woes, e.g. each time the forum software updates, will it break the software that is working hand in hand, especially if there are integration mods.

Some of these things could also be really helped I would bet if xenforo worked hand in hand with some of the third-party gallery plugin or softwrae providers like photopost to provide enhanced integration.

But more, I think there could be some exciting possibilities for xenforo to provide presentation of richer media. For example on image-rich sites, it would be neat to be able to click on a member's username and see a gallery of all their images that they've posted in variuos threads.

It would be really neat to be able to view a gallery of all images posted in a given forum, each linked to the post/thread it was originally posted in for more information.

Or a gallery of photos posted in posts/threads matching a keyword/tag.

I think xenforo's missing addon is "a Gallery".
There are sooooooooooooo many good Galleries out there now I don't think a photopost for xenforo would fly except for those members with large existing photoposts.
And if I was in that situation, I wouldn't pay for photopost for xenforo (which doesnt exist). I'd pay to migrate all my photopost data to another gallery.

Sorting
The gallery should sort images with two options: Highest rated and most recent. The default for persons not logged into the forum should be highest order, because you want to show off your best images to newcomers. The default for users that are logged in should be most recent, because they will want to see what's newest.

Images
Each image needs the author's avatar, name, and link to their profile. A text entry like a forum post should be included in the description. Each image should be rateable from one to five stars.

What's not needed
I prefer if albums not be included. IPB's implementation of albums confuses my users and discourages use. During a conversation with one user, I asked why they didn't just post an image in the gallery and they finally confessed they had no idea how to. Simple is best.

That's really all that's needed. The core features I have described provide a very important way for users to show off their work. Anything beyond that doesn't add much value.

Tags are much better for "categorizing" things.
albums are old school.
The most obvious reason: pictures often belong to more than one category.

would Xenforo encourage STABLE and EFFECTIVE development of ITSELF and addons by establishing a Tagging standard ?

That's a good suggestion, but all I really care about is minimal functionality. I spent a year trying to remove all the extra stuff IPB puts into their gallery, and in the end I failed.

I think the Gallery images should be rated via "Likes".

"Each image should be rateable from one to five stars."
Do you users actually do that ?
vBulletin users certainly didn't.
Likes / "Liking" is quite popular / "well used" by xenforo users.

That might not be a bad idea. It would have more of a focus on spreading awareness of their work, instead of rating it, and it would probably translate better to Facebook/Twitter/etc. YouTube made that change, and it seems to have worked well for them.

Especially because it's not like I wouldn't want to see an image because it is rated 4.1 but I want to see all the images rated 4.6.

Josh111 : would like it if your users could "use" / display gallery images in the forums ?
