How to upgrade to 1.3 - Important information and actions to be taken

As XenForo 1.3 introduces many new features and functions, as is typical with a second point release, there are several specific things which need to be considered when upgrading.

Take a backup of the database before you do anything!
See here for how to backup (and restore):...

Actually.. coming from 1.1 to 1.4 there is a little more involved than just backing up your DB and then going at it willy-nilly.
You are going to have to make sure that your add-ons that you use now have compatible 1.4 versions. If they don't - and your site depends on them - then you will need to get them coded to work with 1.4 or find alternatives.
At the LEAST you need to disable the listeners in the config.php prior to the upgrade process.

The shift between 1.3 to 1.4 was not that great.. BUT there WAS a big shift between 1.1 and 1.2/3

Is this guide valid for migrations from 1.1 to 1.4 as well?
If you're upgrading from 1.1 to 1.4 you should read both this guide for 1.3 and also this one for 1.2

https://xenforo.com/community/resources/how-to-upgrade-to-xenforo-1-2.2397/

There are problems with specific add-ons in both that need to be taken into account if they are used. Also there are major changes to styles and style properties in 1.2 when responsive design was introduced.

Read both guides thoroughly and follow instructions in both in order to make your upgrade go more smoothly.
