Hello Again

Mods should be aware of any such background developments and should respond to these queries immediately. This should have never boiled down to a point, where the Devs/Admins are forced to come back unceremoniously like this. It takes years to build reputation and a blink of an eye to destroy it. No matter how busy we are, one should be able to find a little time to say hi to the community whenever it demands. Wow! i am telling this to a Forum builder. And yeah! Welcome!!! (y)(y)

I see no reason for this post.

Suits like these are notoriously expensive, and thats if your the defendant, if your the claimant consider that cost to be considerably more.

Put simply, attorney fees start form $200 an hour. Lets assume the 110 or so documents already documented in this case, each of which Grace + Grace (Xenforos attorneys) charge the minimum $200 an hour and charge 1 hour per document, thats your $20k gone instantly. That would be just to read them

Then you have to write replies, the cost of research, similar cases, evaluating evidence, communication with the claimants, court appearances, telephone conferences... etc ... etc... etc...

Pretty much.
Yeah, it can be quite discouraging, I hear. If I correctly understand, most cases are settled before they even start. If I understand even more, by braving a lawsuit one already presses the limits of endurance, and is in a minority that few are willing to put up with, even those without families to worry about.

Relatedly, I remember a case recalled by journalist Eric Schlosser in his expose on the food industry, Fast Food Nation, where McDonald's attempted to bully London Greenpeace activists using the English libel law, which forces the burden of proof on the defendants. In this case, Helen Steel, a 25 year old gardener, bus driver, and bartender who left school at 17, and Dave Morris, a 36 year old singer father and postal worker, who left school at 18, and neither of which could afford a lawyer.

That said, with a steroid dose of resolve and help from a Haldane Society of Socialist Lawyers secretary, Helen and Dave dragged McDonald's through one of the most embarrassing cases in its history, even with what Mr. Schlosser called an enormous burden of proof on, and denial of legal aid for, the defendants, and facing McDonald's army of lawyers and bottomless coffers.

McDonald's eventually wished the case to go away, and refused to even collect the money awarded it. Even more, the English government ended up being ordered to pay a fine by the European Court of Human Rights.

The accuser had a much more advantageous position in that case compared to this one, I think.

I cannot even manage the stress, but cases like the above make the barriers for the underdog appear less impenetrable.

Anyways: Kier, I hope you keep your spirits up, and that your family and you are well.

I wish xenForo the best in all of it's endeavors. It sounds like it has garnered a lot of success. That IGN move is a very influential one. :)

I'm sorry to hear about your personal problems. It's hard to imagine what you would have been going through; personal problems, lawsuits, and then some more problems.

Welcome back. :)

Kick arse Kier, Mike and Ashley... you're winning a lot of VB, IPB, MyBB and PHPbb forum conversions to Xenforo. That in itself says a whole lot about the future of Xenforo.

I have no doubt there are lots of investors out there to invest in Xenforo's future if needed... to heed off and deal with further IB issues until your day in court.

It is someone's opinion.

I really don't get why every time anyone posts a dissenting opinion with regard to XenForo, attempts are made to censor them or shout them down.

I don't happen to agree with the opinion in question, but nonetheless it's a valid opinion.

And what are you doing in this post?

Here we go again - lol & sigh
Idiots going to ruin a good thread again.
If you guys don't see Kier for another month, now you know why.

Just stick to welcoming him back, and leave the lawsuit chat to the lawsuit thread?

Best of luck with everything Kier, sorry about all this.

Its called opinion and everyone's entitled to it. I can certainly agree with the sentiment, if not the actual words.

It's not a forum mods job to know every single aspect of what's going on behind the scenes, they were brought on to help moderate the community, not to give out details on "what's the next big/new feature coming to xenforo".

Welcome Back Kier, it is certainly good to see you online again.

I wish you all the very best with matters personal and legal.

You're amazing, a bright and shining star whose luminescence has been sadly missed, not least by myself.
