Getting a 10K character error while editing a post

My users are getting the following error when trying to edit large posts. However I checked and the characters in post (in BB code editor) arre less then 7K characters.

What could be the problem?

Go into admincp >> Options >> messages and increase the field Maximum Message Length

Did you account for bbcode being used?

By the BBCode editor do you mean the Rich Text editor?

IIRC BBCodes are also counted in the character limit check.

Yes in BB code editor mode BB codes are visible and therefore counted. RTE is opposite of BBCE.

Yes that admin page setting is set at 10K characters and post has around 7K character. Would like to understand the reason for this error before increasing the limit.
