If you renew now, you get 12 months of updates which will include XF 2.3 and probably XF 3.0.

Forget I said anything!

XF 3.0 will mostly include just the new style which needs a little more time to cook and so, yeah, that is the current target, but it is by no means a guarantee.

We've even had conversations where 3.1 might be released in 2024 too. Theoretically, if work continues on a 3.1 feature release while the 3.0 style goes through its (smaller) release process then that, too, is possible when you couple that with the fact that we want to aim for much smaller, much more frequent releases.

A few grains of salt:

Given how 2.3 is actually quite a big update and rather bigger than 3.0 which is a big jump from 2.3, wouldn't it make more sense to call 2.3 3.0 and 3.0 3.1, perhaps?

No because that’s not really how semantic versioning works.

We do big feature releases on second point releases like 2.3 while maintaining backwards compatibility as best as we can.

We do major breaking changes, such as an entirely new default style, in first point releases like 3.0.

We do breach the suggestions sometimes, even in second point releases, small backwards incompatible changes are necessary. We'd probably be on version 5.0 by now if we followed it to the letter but for the most part it works. But, yeah, 2.3 isn't a first point-worthy release, 3.0 will be.

I'm looking forward to what everything will look like once xf 2.3 hits.
From what i've read it sounds like most addon's won't be needed and have seen some concerned people on here!

I don't know where you get that at... I can't think of anything that has been announced that will eliminate any add-ons I use (but does result in coding changes in them).

Righto. I'll be keeping most of the 40+ I'm currently using. I might not need a couple of them any longer, and there might be a couple that soon won't work properly any more, for which there might be no replacements, but I don't see a lot changing in that regard. ;)

I'm surprised you're not testing the ignore feature here. On our forums, I think I might change it to the Dolby logo and call it Noise Reduction. 😁 (Sorry...oldtimer inside joke. 🤣)

Oh I do (but mainly using my own process)... but when there is a reasonable response that can be made to fallacious claims it's hard to let those claims lay fallow as they may take root.

I understood that comment by @aussiefooty as a joke/sarcasm.
:)
Yeah it was because there are so many people who were worried/concerned about all the things that they weren't going to be needing in the next version.
My idea is to wait until version 2.3 comes out. Before even contemplating adding more addons.
You don't want to have so many addons that it stuffs up the next version.

Read the HAVE YOU SEEN? Thread https://xenforo.com/community/threads/miscellaneous-changes-for-xenforo-2-3.217243/
This is why people like you are going to be taking everything seriously.
I've seen your forum and you have way too many thread prefixes, so i'm going to take a guess that you have a stack of addons that you won't need.
