Current Litigation

YOU are not blocked. Your COUNTRY is blocked. If YOU were blocked, you would not be able to use your swiss visa card either.

On the other hand, I'm not talking about using the card, but accepting payments from other people's cards.

Can a US court order prohibit a UK company (such as Moneybookers) from accepting payments on someone's behalf? (xenForo's in this case.) Sure they can willingly choose not to have xenForo as their client, but can they be ordered to do so by a US court order?

If not, then how does anyone in the world (other than Moneybookers) know who I send my $140 to? All that's shown on my card-statement is that I sent money to Moneybookers. Whether it was for xenForo or Julian Assange or my mother, does not appear on the statement. If they have no idea, then I think there is no way they can block that transaction.

Um no, one country cannot enforce their rules (laws) on another country unless by way of trade sanctions. Luckily for us XF is in the UK and there are no trade sanctions in place between the US and the UK (that I know of).

I could be wrong, but I think the point is that a U.S. court can prevent the sale here in the U.S.

How would that work? It's not a physical product that can be rejected at the airport from ever entering the country. There is no salesperson in the US who can be taken to jail.

All US banks and companies can be ordered not to send money to xF, but there are plenty of banks in the UK to accept payments.

???

Yes, just like people can pirate software. It's possible, but it doesn't make it legal or right.

Pirating software is a crime in most countries (if not all). Your own country's law is different from another country's court order.

Anyway, we're talking about one of the worst-case scenarios, and it's unlikely that the case will ever get here... :)

Has the UK ??

C0me on man, you are a smart man, but don't grasp at straws !!
If you are referring to my post, then yes, the UK has subscribed to the Berne Convention. I am not clutching at straws, just pointing out that worldwide doom is factually incorrect, it would only apply to countries which have decided to honour the Berne Convention, which last time I checked, is NOT the whole world.

Yes. we've signed the Berne Convention.

Why ?

Because there are so many recording industry people in the UK, Led Zep, The Beatles and all the rest, that is why, because the record companies in the US and the UK all are in bed together.

Deebs, if for some ridiculous reason the XF copyright is awarded to IB how could Kier then sell the script in these nations you talk about ?

All I am saying is think about what you are saying here.

I was only commenting on the effect this could have on us in the U.S. I don't know other countries laws to be able to comment on them.

But yes, worst-case scenarios indeed :)

We've signed all copyright treaties available, all four of them.

can we be a bit more positive?
