CTA Featured Threads & Portal [Paid] 2.17.0

No permission to buy (£40.00)
Nice one - especially the consistent sizing of avatars/images/icons - nice touch. :D

Personally I'll be putting the max height limit back in on the page view, but I do like the idea of showing more content so it'll be a more generous height than is currently set! (y)

Looking forward to the new release. :D

A couple of questions about the new uploaded images/icons:
  1. If a thread is unfeatured and at a later date featured, presumably the uploading image/icon will still be there?
  2. Will there be any way to mass delete image/icons from threads which are no longer featured? I suspect that many forums won't keep on re-featuring the same threads again and again, so the uploaded images will then just be sitting there taking up space (though admittedly not a lot). It would be nice if there was an option to mass delete them.

1. The ability to upload an icon is always available when featuring, whether for the first or nth time. In fact, it's even possible to add one for existing featured threads, if they don't already have one, by manually navigating to the upload page.

2. When a thread is unfeatured, the uploaded icon will be deleted automatically.

Can I just check, what is the definition of an icon? Can it be any image you manually use when creating the thread? And are there size limits controlled elsewhere?

Is there anything stopping the icon being the full width of the page?

Really looking forward to the next release! Will finally start to style them properly on my main site then

I thought the numerous recent posts were clear enough.

There is an option to control the server side resizing: http://xenforo.com/community/threads/cta-featured-threads-paid.64261/page-50#post-746907

The rendered display is controlled via Style Properties: http://xenforo.com/community/threads/cta-featured-threads-paid.64261/page-53#post-752447

Images/icons are uploaded when featuring: http://xenforo.com/community/threads/cta-featured-threads-paid.64261/page-53#post-750176

Yep I read all of that but still wasn't sure if there were any other things which would restrict the size of the icon in pracrice. You stated the text will wrap around the icon so I wasn't sure what happened if the icon was "full width". I imagine there's also other things like what happens in responsive mode if the image is larger than the device width. Is there anything that resizes it or prevents it showing or does it just break out of the container?

It is all controlled via Style Properties.

the avatar and icon are not displayed in responsive styles at the narrow width.

Don't worry, I will be posting a comprehensive update, as always, once 2.2 is released.

Thanks

Last question (and I haven't seen this mentioned in this thread), do you know of anyone who's using this in conjunction with xenporta? We'd like to keep xenporta for the sidebar and some of the other modules but basically replace the RecentNews module with this. I think it'd basically need a custom xenporta block for this so suspect it's not been done by anyone...

To clarify, this is how a container with a 192px icon appears just before the narrow width trigger point:
upload_2014-4-16_22-58-2.webp

And this is how it appears just after:
upload_2014-4-16_22-58-39.webp

So as you can see, there's no breakout and everything works as it should.

Of course, if you set the icon size to 500px then you would need to make further changes to stop things breaking.

I think the icons make this really powerful :-) Something that would be useful would be to allow selection from a pre-defined list of icons (much like the thread prefixes) but I suspect that might be difficult to implement.

@Brogan @RobParker I am indeed using this with Widget Framework. I was using XenPorta prior to this but replaced the XenPorta sidebar with Widget Framework first, then abandoned XenPorta altogether and then purchased Featured Threads. A good combination and I have also replaced the sidebar that comes with the Featured Threads page with Widget Framework for consistency throughout my site. Just give me a shout if you want any help with FT +WF stuff. :)
