I want to make a black gaming site as my new xenforo forum.

Every Black person I ran this idea by thinks it's a bad idea. I ran the idea along my coworkers at work. We were all standing in a group. This was the reaction:

Black Guy1: Bad idea. Waste of money. You could spend that $30 a year on a bottle of absolut

Black Guy2: Your shooting yourself in the face.

Black Guy3: Ain't nobody got time for all that bull****

Black Guy4: That's racist. White guys will join to troll you and black dudes won't join cause it's racist.

Black Guy5: That site will only be up for 3 months. Them white hackers gonna bring it down.

^^^This was the real world response. I created a thread about this on a hip hop forum and this was the online response:

Guy6: All they would talk about is Madden and 2k11

Guy7: That's racist.

Guy8: LMFAOOOO

Guy9: Racist...neogaf da goat gaming forum

Guy10: man fukk a neogaf. they dont let no trill niccas post over there

Guy11: alot of black folk still think the internets are for nerds

Guy12: na, they just went from myspace to facebook. they never knew anything about forums

Guy13: i'd like to know so i can go and gentrify it.

Guy14: why the hell would u want a black gaming forum? the fukk race gotta do with gaming

Guy15: No cism, but I imagine a black gaming site/forum would be very boring. Niccas ain't playin no "indie"/"artsie" games like LittleBigPlanet, Heavy Rain, or Super Meat Boy.

Guy16: Yep all my Black friends play is Madden, 2K, FIFA, and Fight Night Yet im actually the only one that isnt entertained by any of the above game.

Blah blah more 'wtf kind of weird ass idea is this' type of posts. I know a Black gaming forum is a bad idea, but I'm curious to see the power of XenForo first-hand. Would people get addicted to a forum, from the coolness of the features of the forum alone, even though the premise of the site doesn't make any sense to them? Hmmm. I love to experiment. I'm gonna do it but that's not why. Even though I know it's a bad idea logically, I think it's a great idea creatively. I love a challenge.

I'm not sure this is a suitable topic for discussion really.

Why do you want to segregate/separate people based on the colour of their skin?

How would you know?

Well I want to create a xenforo site and this was my idea for a forum. Just wanted some feedback that's all. You can delete the thread if you like. I don't think it's segregation. I see black tv stations, black movies, black sites about black movies or black music but no gaming sites.

I would imagine gamers (of any colour, faith, age, or sex) would simply wish to join a community of other gamers regardless of their colour, faith, age or sex ... (y)

Gaming is also a very hard niche to get into as there are already many, many forums for gamers. That is not to say you couldn't make a successful site, just that it would take a lot of hard work to get it going.

Cheers,
Shaun :D

For the gamers I know, most of them love that world because nobody knows what race, gender, or age the person is, everybody is an equal who share a common enjoyment. A segregated forum based upon how somebody looks would be the exact opposite of those gamers philosophy. :coffee:

Not really, its very common with Asian gamers. You'll find nationality specific or ethnic specific guilds and such all over.

Yeah I know it's a lot of hard work. I joined a site called theoldergamers.com and was banned after the first post because I mentioned I downloaded Castlevania. They automatically assumed I did so illegally etc, no warning, no questions asked, just instant ban. This also happened on a gta forum I joined but all they did was warn me and delete the thread. To me that felt excessive in both cases. I thought, okay time to make a gaming site, but what could I do to make it unique? That's one of the reasons why I chose to create a Black Gaming site.

I understand that. I want to dive more into Black contributions to gaming so Black gamers can learn more about what their community is doing for gaming. I want to interview or post interviews of Black gaming developers, designers, programmers, artists, musicians, voice actors and professional players. Me personally, I barely know of any. All I can think of is Black voice actors. I know there's gotta be more to it than that. That's why I think a site like this is needed even if people think it's a bad idea. A little knowledge never hurt anybody.

If that is common for the gamers you know, then so be it, but for the gamers I know, what I posted holds true.

Well, the obvious thing is to pick a particular game/series/genre - do you have any personal favourites? (where you'll have a player's perspective and be able to share all the ins and outs of the game/genre with anyone who signs up to chat).

You could even go as far as specialising in a particular level/map/version, but if you narrow it down too far you'll really limit your options and reduce the breadth of what you can talk about around it.

Are there any new games out that you could capitalise on?

What about a Retro Gaming forum that focuses on older gaming technology and games?

Just a few ideas.

Cheers,
Shaun :D

What is "different" about black game players, designers, developers, etc. that would require a specialist forum?

What specialist or different contribution do black people, specifically, bring to gaming?

That's the point really - there isn't a difference is there?

That sounds like a great idea. Unfortunately, I don't play sports games or RPGs, I would have to rely on someone else for that. I mostly prefer first person or 3rd person shooters.

The point is they're Black. What contributions do Black people who are a minority, bring to gaming on both the production and consumer side of gaming? Do you know? Can you name any Black gaming companies off the top of your head? Do you know any Black gaming creators and producers of famous gaming franchises? Do any actually exist? Hence the need for a site.

There are none (if i understand your post) because they don't hire their workforce based on colour but for their talent (skills in developing). Maybe I just misunderstood your post.

Well that's a damn shame that there are none. Hopefully I'll inspire someone to step their game up.

well, as everybody seems to be against your idea, then it is for sure a great idea and I would urge you to just set-up your forum and go for it and execute on your idea!
usually when everyone is against it, it is a great idea. contrarian thinking always wins.

Maybe you can also include "black" superstars like "Michael Jordan" or other black stars on gaming, sports, etc.

in Roulette it says: Rouge & Noir

rougeandnoir.com is available

I've never heard of Contrarian Thinking before so I looked it up.

Saw this blog: http://michaelhaupt.com/contrarian-thinking/

and this quote: “No one is thinking if everyone is thinking alike.” – Porter B. Williamson

I like that. This is what had me laughing though:

In many ways, contrarian thinkers are like comedians: they test boundaries and challenge the status quo. Most comedy relies upon the exposition of absurdity. Something only becomes absurd when it stands out dramatically from its surroundings, or differs greatly from what is expected or anticipated; in other words, when it contrasts. Contrast is therefore inherent to the nature of comedy, and contrarian thinking.

^^^I have been laughing ever since I came up with this idea because it does sound absurd. The more I think about it though, the more I like it and the more I want to go through with it.

I'm sorry, but have you seen HipHopGamer.com? That's a "black gaming site" and I get where you're going with this 'black gaming forum' you want to capture the whole "I'ma blak dude, yo" crowd. Even though it's a bit controversial, I know what you're trying to do.

Right now, Women and "black people" aren't participating in making gaming more accessible to just about any gamer. It's usually, the white gamer that buys these games. I'm a latino, and I have seen a lot of latinos that are gamers, but the big chunk of the industry is made up of white people and people in general. There's not enough women, not enough black dudes, and whatnot. Gaming, the way it is now is very narrow, because it hasn't reached the marketshare that other media forms already have.

contrarian thinking is most commonly used in investing: just act against of what the masses do or what the masses tell you. this is usually the way you make the most money in investing. it is some kind of philosophy. think about 11 years ago when everybody said: "internet search-engines are dead" and yahoo and everybody else said they will stop offering "internet search". then a tiny company named google '(nobody knew this company then at that time) re-developed search..... the rest is history.

the money is in niches! also think about what kind of "gaming" you offer (roulette, poker, internet gaming, horse-racing, sports-betting, etc.). I know there are many games which are commonly played by asian people, and no white person has ever heard of those kind of games........
