And a Question:

I have it activated - but I see no notification about new updates. Only the one at ACP. Is there a second switch I have to enable?

That should be enough.. The addon only checks in with the API every 6h though and only notifies if something new has been found, so might be you have manually updated the addon(s) before the checkin has happened? 🤔

And... ;) I miss this stuff:

I think its helpfull to have such informations and easy to find links. :)

The acp notice always shows, but the alerts are only triggered when a new addon version is found... It might be that there hasn't come anything new since you installed... But if you see new things in the ACP notice but don't get a notification there might br something we have to fix... 😊

Set this up on our test forum, and immediately ran into API limitations, just from the sheer numbers of addons there that we're playing with over there before taking them over to our live forum. Is there any chance that, for those forums with 80+ addons, this addon could simply do something like check alternating halves of the addons every time it checks in (i.e. an install with 100 addons would check those in 2 batches of 50 spread over 12 hours)?

I can't speak for others, but I know I'm not likely to be checking addon updates more than once a day anyway, so the existing 6 hourly checks are already far more frequent than I need.

The API limitations and time limitations are there to prevent NULL forum sites from trying to proxy/scrape the data for their users (we also have other things in place but security by obscurity is always nice ;) )... This addon is only for real XF customers :) 👍

It could be less frequent, but also I know some users would want slightly more often updates :D

Also, I've been playing with the idea of making this addon use a Freemium model, where e.g. ~40 add-ons are included for free in the API key, and if you want more it would be something like ~5€ per ~30 extra add-ons per year to get update info on more, that way it pays for the server costs and maintenance of the addon (into which I've already put 100+ hours)

This sounds very fair both to users and yourself

mazzly updated Addon Update Notifier with a new update entry:

Improve addon.json metadata, and allow ignoring a specific addon version

  • addon.json metadata now has some useful links, thanks @otto
  • possibility to ignore the current newest version
    • When a newer version is released it will still notify you about the newer version
    • Less clutter in admin/addon if you don't e.g. want to update to a specific version

So if I ignore it, is it one time ignore or permanent? I don't want to ignore and forget it :D
btw, with the latest release, you can hide this by "ignoring this version"

thank you. where do I donate to support this?
I added a donate button in the addon listing now also 👍

But if you have over ~40 add-ons in your list, you might want to wait for me to do the following :) 👍

Hi @mazzly

Is there any plan to include the one-click upgrade instead of a download?

Regards...
Nope, sorry 😔, too many security implications with implementing something like that...
I could even get in legal trouble if I would manage to mess something up here and credentials would leak out...

Correct information entered to get the API key, but
Oops! We ran into some problems.
API key not valid
Can you send a PM with details used and I'll look into why it would say that 😊👍

It seems you put the board url as https://www.avforums.com/forums/ but the addon checked in with https://www.avforums.com :)

I now edited your API key to have the correct value :) 👍

Hi @mazzly I wanted to know why is my add-on is not listed for best add-on ever?

I am taking about the nick97 recently used device add-on!

It is not necessarily the "best" addons list, but the "most used"... Also note that the data currently is from 74 forums using the addon, so it might be that those specific forums are not using that addon... The more forums using this addon, the more accurate the data will be :)

Here is some data for a few nick addons... (I don't want to put a full list as there were some private addons there also...)

(btw, ignore the maintained column, not correct data there..)

Currently to be in top X, requires a minimum of Y forums to use it:
  • Top 100: 8 forums using it
  • Top 200: 5 forums using it
  • Top 300: 4 forums using it
  • Top 400: 3 forums using it
  • Top 500-700: 2 forums using it
Those numbers will also change the more forums are using it 🤓
