I didn't mean the price she mentioned, thousands. Just the fact you can expect to pay more for custom work. Personally, I wouldn't say any smiley mod is worth thousands, not when you can go buy the likes of fully blown complicated Torrent mod involving much more coding work for as little as £100.

That's how I'd put things in perspective on price. Also, I wouldn't pay anyone "per hour" coding a mod for obvious reasons. I'd pay them a fixed agreed price for the finished thing. It you start paying them "per hour", they'll take you to the cleaners with every excuse under the sun given for being slow working getting the job done.

That's another subject which I don't really care about. Suffice to say two developers and one other potential developer have offered to build a smiley system to my specs if I style for them. I don't like styling so this is not an option anymore. If your wanting something built to your own specifications you'll either have to wait for a developer to build/release it (unlikely) wait for it to be included into the <insert product here> again unlikely or your best bet, dig deep and pay for a custom built smiley manager.

I wasn't going to go into it too much but since your the OP and asked I'd explain what the likely outcome would be with regards to the above.

False. I have a job because I need money. You have a job because you need money. If my "job" was developing custom add-ons for people, my doing a massive project for you without compensation would decrease the amount of time I have to earn my living and survive. I've helped many friends out, but they are all simple and don't require much time. My skills as a developer (or anyones) should be treated as equally as a doctor's. Would you befriend a doctor so you could get him to perform a $40,000, 20 hour surgery for free?

It's not that false man. Some coders really do things for others purely out of good will. That's been my experience on both vBulletin and xenforo, not so much for xenforo but definitely when I was using vBulletin. On the flip side, xenforo's customer support is way faster. In other words, vBulletin seems to have nicer coders but xenForo has nicer customer support.

It's not that false man. Some coders really do things for others purely out of good will. That's been my experience on both vBulletin and xenforo, not so much for xenforo but definitely when I was using vBulletin.

IMO it depends on how many freetime coders & "kiddies" are here, which DON'T have to make money with there addons because they live by their parents and don't need to earn money for there living

Nobody is saying that they also can't release free add-ons, but it's IMO a different situation as for free time coders^^

Well vBulletin is a much older and established community so most of what I said would be rare for xenforo. I don't know if the people who have made custom modifications for me for free live with their parents or not. Not really my business. I just appreciate their work and return favors whenever I can.

3. Conversation Manager by Syndol

How frusturating is it to have to click inside an individual private conversation just to find out who sent you the message? Seriously, not being able to see who has sent you a private conversation or who all is involved in the conversation just from looking at the list is a glaring oversight. This is the only forum software I've used that does that. Thankfully, Syndol has answered the call. I've also noticed that since I've installed Conversation Manager, more members are messaging me. It's probably like that for everyone else too. The increase of private conversations created after installing this modification is a fine example of the Principle of Least Effort in action.
